Those are the exact same trackback spams I'm getting on my site, and I'm trying to figure out the same thing.

Of course, my favorite solution is to find the spammer, block is IP, then force him to eat his own reproductive organs in hollandaise sauce, but that's just me.

I got more than 300 trackbacks on those!
I can't possibly block them all.
what i did now was edit the template so it doesn't show the trackback list. temporary solving the problem.

i didn't know this was happening until a member asking why are there porn links in my site. ><

they will keep on coming.

I want to totally disable the trackback function.
I don't find any use in that. is there anyway?

i don't really get what trackbacks are but somehow they are used to map or thread conversations together in the blogosphere, across sites, and time, etc. I don't know many people who use them other than spammers.

not sure how weblog works. I used to use it a long time ago but gave it up for wordpress which had a lot more functionality. wordpress has lots of plugins to fight both comment spam and trackback spam. it also allows you to disable trackbacks, which is what I do.

Some blogs also use a system where you rename the trackback file to something random, which makes it hard for the spam bots to find it. . . usually, it's something like trackback_post.php and spambots look for this type of naming convention, but some blog software enables you to change it to whatever you want like SpammersCan'tFindThisFile.php.

Again, I had to go with XPress because I think it's the most secure against spammers.

ah crap. i got hundreds of post in my weblog by now. i might consider to move to xpress if there is a migration script.

but again it would be easier if I could just disable the darn trackback functions.

Did you find a migration script? I'm definitely looking for one. The blog spam has gotten out of hand on my site now

I too am getting this trackback spam on my weblog, and have dealt with by using phpadmin to delete the trackbacks from the database from time to time

does changing the layout stop the spam??

why can't we just turn trackback off??

Re: what the heck is a trackback in weblog ?

I don't know how to edit it out (yet, although I'm working on it), but I do know that banning a couple of IPs will certainly help. In your general settings, find the "Enter IP addresses that should be banned from the site" window and enter the following:

^195.225.176|^85.255.113|^85.255.114|^85.255.115|^85.255.116|^85.255.117|^195.225.177

That should stop most of the trackback/comment spam if it's coming from the same source as the spam I'm getting, which from your description it seems to be. The spammer apparently has a fixed IP and is working his way up the IP addresses from 85.255.113.1 on up, incrementing them every day or two. He's currently in the 85.255.114 range, so blocking the 114-119 range ought to provide some relief for at least a little while. I'm a little nervous about blocking the whole 85.255.xxx.xxx range because I'm afraid that will block out some legit users, but so far I haven't had any trackback or comment spam since we blocked those IP addresses listed.
