I'm being hacked through cache

Do the cache and templates_c folders have to be 777?

I have protector, and still, someone is modifying the cached files to insert code in them...

I have protector, but when I try to set the permissions to something more restricitve, the site just goes blank.

Any suggestions.

Might try 707 for the cache. 644 on the adminmenu.php in the cache folder.

Anyone have a better setup?

No reason to have cache and template_c as 777, 775 might work just as well. Others need just to read it.

is it as simple as changing permissions?

It depends on how the server is configured. The folder needs to be writable by the user it runs as. Where the problems come in is when apache is run by the user "nobody" which is a default webuser account. Try 775, clear the template_c and cache folder, if the site runs it is OK, if it goes blank you will need to change the settings back.

755 Worked for me on all versions with no problems. I'm not sure why you're having problems with 775 working on 2.2.3a. Since the scripts *should* be running as the same user, there shouldn't be a difference between versions.

Re: Im being hacked through cache

I have XOOPS 2.0.9.3, and when I set templates_c to 705, the site goes blank until I change it back to 707...

Would upgrading to XOOPS 2.2 allow me to have 705 for templates_c? Of is it my servers config that doesn't allow me to have 705?

I haven't upgraded because I did some hacks to some files, and I don't want to have to redo my changes again after upgrade. I will if I must, but if upgrading won't allow me to have 705, then I don't see the point of upgrading...
