Hi,

I'm using 2.0.13.2 with Protector 2.5.
I need to change in the mainfile.php the hostname of the database server. But as soon as I change it, I cannot login anymore. So just to be sure I disabled Protector within its own admin section, I disabled protector within XOOPS module section, I disabled the lines in the mainfile.php aswell. I removed the cache files.

But I still cannot login anymore. I can login with another admin user, but then I have suddenly limited access, and my multimenu also shows a previous menu that was changed ???

When i put back in the original database host name, everything is back in order, I have a Ip number set now, but want to change it to localhost (that used to work before)
So can I change this or not?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Cannot change database hostname?

I would try following even though I haven't done it myself.

Login as a site admin
Change mainfile.php
Update system (and other modules) through modules admin

Nope sorry, doesnt work

When I do that, I get thrown out anyway with message I have no rights to do this.
When I change back the mainfile, I am back in again.

I'm not sure if the protector module has something to do with it. the 13.2 update itself had security changes aswell, perhaps these now do not allow me anymore to change the name.

That is quite uneasy, because what to do if you want to move your site to another site and take this database with it.....

Re: Cannot change database hostname?

can you get to the MySQL server from command line with that hostname? There were a couple of posts about it a couple of days ago on how to test it. Just search forums. I think Herko posted instructions on how to test connection to MySQL server.

also I would check server logs, because it should burp if it can't connect to server or something similar.

Thanks,
I have been reading the posts, but I have no access to the logfiles, my provider will not supply them or even check them for me.... Commandline is therefore also not possible, so I am wondering how to check on it or to give them the instructions to set it right?

But it could have something to do which directories like temp for mysql, since I know there is something changed when the provider decided to move to another system/server. I experience strange behaviour in other modules aswell (like with Spaw I cannot add pictures anymore, get error library doesnt physically exist) and the cleaner module doesnt clean up the templates_c dir anymore also????

Now if I set PhpDebug on, I simply get a error page cannot be found when going back to the homepage. If I choose in the path for another module it works....
Then I tried to go back to Admin to set debug off and found that some of the settings are gone, like phpdebug and the cache settings where just gone from the screen????
Thats with IE, with Firefox I experience the problem with the homepage slightly different, it works on opening but from admin back to homepage nothing happens, but I get with Firefox a correct settings screen so I can turn debug off again.

No access to log files? wtf? Dude, get another provider if you have no log files and they will not check it for you.

okay, sure but thats another problem I'm working on.

a friend having a site with the same provider decided to change and they pulled the plug immediately eventhough and even made the domain name free, which was taken by somebody else aswell. Sure all not in order but only to resolve by judicial action. So I am a little bit cautious now. Can't have to lose the site domainname.
Any recommandations for good hosters welcome (also to take up the nl domain name)

But problemsolving the above is most wanted.

Re: Cannot change database hostname?

So how do you get/transfer files to host? How do you setup database? How do you know the database is correct? If you enable PHP debug on site there is nothing? You have to test correct path to database hostname and make sure you can connect to it.

I have ftp and phpmyadmin access, I get lots of php messages when phpdebug is on (they use 4.4.0)and the blanc page as mentioned before.
The database works, kinda I think.
I have been examining the database, am I right or wrong that for instance the table modules should reflect the same content as the modules screen in the admin, since it does not....
I see modules mentioned I have uninstalled, modules being inactive that are not. Modules that I have installed and working are not in that table.
As if I am looking in the wrong table/database??
Maybe that's the problem when I try to change the hostname?
As I said problems arose when the provider moved to a new server. could it be that things are reflecting to an other (old) server that perhaps still is operational?

Not even sure what to tell you. If you do not know to what database it points and if it's a correct and full database then who knows? Sure, it does look suspicious if you see modules that are uninstalled in your database.
