Multimenu would be the easiest solution. A little tedious building the menus and getting them in the desired order (hint, MM needs a reorder feature) but it gets the job done without touching/hacking the core.
My preference order for doing this would be:
Multimenu (easiest by far)
Build my own menu in the theme (also pretty easy but more time consuming)
Hack the templates (only under specific cases like commercial sites that pay $$ and insist on a solution not already available)
no max no bling. goes double for mik. triple for the insane aliases of said lunatics
