hey gediminasbyt :)

don't give up m8, it's always hard in the start, getting the word around and building your community awareness.

it can be stressful and make you feel that it isn't worth it, but i assure you eventually it all gets better.. it may take a week, it may take a month and then 1 day, the word hits the right people and bam, you'll start to see the members rise and the efforts you have made will all be justified.

there is a lot to running support sites as david said, and it is a stressful job at times.. you've probably seen me lose my cool a few times and have a go at people on here, even on my other sites. the thing you shouldn't do is give up and waste all the effort you have done so far. doing something for free when you know there is no profit to be made as such DOES give you some satisfaction and self being knowing that you are helping others. it's not the fact that you aren't being paid, it's the sense of being that you get from helping another person achieve what they want. it can be an unthankful job too, but be assured the people that you do help will be very appreciative of it.

with regard to the script kiddies, well sometimes u just have to grit your teeth and move on.. as long as you've done your best trying to prevent it and following the procedures, there's nothing more you can do.. they will always find a way eventually. as for morons, well you can only deal with those accordingly, there are a few types. those that are just surfing round and then causing hassle trying to get a nasty response and wind you up. sometimes it works, but if you keep calm, and respond without laying into them yourself, they don't get the satisfaction then and will no doubt probably get bored and move on somewhere else. but there's the others which are intent on causing havoc and will keep coming back at random. the thing to do there is do as much as you can to ban them from your site..

sometimes it's good to take a breather and do something else for a while, then come back with a clear stress free mind.

my old partner made over £10,000 from my old website, that i built & designed and promoted fully. I never received a single £ from it, neither did i know that he was making all this money behind my back in a project that we both founded together. yes it made me angry and i was ready for kicking the shit out of him, but what would it have achieved? other than a criminal record. the site is now gone and he's moved on and lost lots of respect from the people who paid him money etc.. in that respect word has passed around and i have had many a phonecall asking for help with maintaining and building a few web sites for people and companies all thru my work with that 1 site.. i still feel bitter about it and it really made me think about chucking the whole lot in and finding a new hobby.. but i'm still here, i still haven't got round to building my new website yet, but once i get in the frame of mind to, i will :)

what i'm trying to say is, grit ya teeth and persivere, if you have the willingness to still do what you want to do, then it will pay off eventually and you'll not look back.

i hope i made sense :S

Sometimes I let people here get to me... (I bet some Core or Module programmers feel like that also!)

I will just walk away for a few hours and kill lots of people on Counter Strike It's a great stress relief

My head hurts....

Thanks m0nty for a long reply, thought I'll puke while reading it No, not because it was not right. You helped me. People like you drive the community around. Thanks m8!

Dave:

I'm different kind of bread (I guess). Reason is I just do not play any computer games. Sometimes wish I were attracted on killing someone on Warcraft, getting fuc*** cops on Grand Theft Auto or to play Doom in command line.

Nope, I'd better have a bottle of a good wine.

Thanks m8s for support.

Sober,Gediminas

I am not a violent person... but as I work in "customer services" - sometimes people upset me a lot during the day.... so I need a stress relief

Take a look at the digital vandalism that WikiPedia has to deal with (mainly originating it appears from our technology enlightened schools) and then see a classic example of 'soft security' in action by clicking the 'discussion' tab at the top of that page.

The user 'curps', who I assume is an admin, is trying to persuade a rogue user to behave... nicely.

I don't think I would have that kind of patience!

More on soft security here. Bend like the willow and all that!
A thread is for life. Not just for Christmas.
