A little concerned about this report in the 'Protect Center' of the Protector module :

07/06/2005 14:48:12      Guests      24.194.25.74
Java
/1.4.1_05     ParentDir     Doubtful file specification '../../../../../../../../../../../../../../../../../etc/passwd' found.

Anyone know what that means?

Fairly sure that the IP address relates to someone in New York, Clifton Park, USA.

Ted

I can't help with the error, but I'm curious as to the /etc/passwd part of the error. Especially that long path.

/etc/passwd is the default location where Linux stores information about user logons. By default on most modern distros, the passwords are encrypted. The password is unencrypted using a special hash. It's not easy to do, but you can crack the /etc/passwd file. But that would take one skilled Linux user to pull off.
Insanity can be defined as "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Stupidity is not a crime. Therefore, you are free to go.

That's the bit I was worried about as well!! I'm guessing that maybe he's tried to get the password of the main web server that my site's stored on.

Think I will post at GIJOE's site to see if he can help.

Anyone else have any ideas?
