I was going to post this on the WF-Sections site, but it's being relocated, so I'll ask here in the meantime.

I am building 2 sites using WF-Sections 2.07b3 and everything works well. I am however getting a little nervous about our host upgrading to PHP 5.

I noticed that the PHP/MySQL 'package' solutions (XAMP etc.) are PHP 5 now, so I get the distinct impression that for those of using shared hosting, time is running out for PHP 4.

Can the WF team now say when WF-Sections will be brought up to speed, or if a PHP 5 patch is possible?

I am really impressed with WF-Sections and I read in the XOOPS newsletter that some work on a new version is underway. However, I would be happier to know that the sites I'm building now won't die overnight in a couple of months time if my host upgrades.

Now that John is officially on track with WF Modules again i can tell you that work on PHP5 compatibility has started some time ago.

However i wont burn my fingers on a release date ...

Thx for the update Bender.

I actually raised a support ticket with my host yesterday asking if they planned to upgrade. It appears that they only plan to install newer PHP versions on new servers as they come online, so unless there is a security issue, my existing reseller webspace will remain powered by PHP 4.

I hate to turn my original question about face but... I assume any new version of WF-Sections will continue to work under PHP 4?

( I promise I won't ask it to do anything else!)

I really donĀ“t think its time to abandon php 4 yet. The majority of XOOPS user does still run php4. So the answer is yes for the time being.

XOOPS 2.2 will try to be PHP5 compatible, but is made for PHP4. XOOPS4 (still a looong time away from being close to stable!) is going to be PHP5 native, using many of the more advanced features PHP5 brings for object oriented systems. So, when XOOPS4 comes, switching to PHP5 would be good. But don't worry about that for at least 6 months!

Just a note, I will begin releasing bug fix updates to all our modules in the next few hours (over the next few days) and hopefully this will help those havin issues.

Yes all our modules will work with PHP5 but don't expect them to use any reall PHP5 functionality until XOOPS is PHP5.
