I have a custom made database/intranet, written in PHP and MySQL, that performs a number of functions for our organisation, inlcuding complex contact/organisational management, event management, financal reports and so on.

I want to transport it into XOOPS for a variety of reasons, including the fact that I'd be able to take advantage of other XOOPS modules and create an integrated intranet / website.

But I have a couple of questions...

1) In your opinions, is XOOPS a suitable platform on which to transport / re-develop a complex customer relation management system?

2) Should I include this project in the module development forge from the outset? - Would there be any advantages in doing so? I am initially working as a lone developer, and because of its specificity, it is likely that the end product would have a small audience.

Thanks for your advice and opinions,
Michael

1.) That depends. XOOPS is great with user management, access control, and you can add features such as notifications, comments, user profile etc. to your application, as well as use other modules. If you don't want to use all that, then perhaps it's too much trouble. Especially since XOOPS uses classes that you'd need to call and extend in order to make it a fully functional XOOPS module/application. But the benefits can be big, but it requires an investment in making it work 'the XOOPS way'.

2. No, you don't have to use the Forge. CRM is not something for a small audience, but if your only goal is to prot your application to XOOPS, then I'd do that first, and release it afterwards. You can still use the community for advice, help and testing

There are definitely a fair amount of corporate users, myself inlcuded, that would love to see a CRM module for Xoops.

dev.xoops.org is for exchanging ideas, problems and solutions.

So if you think you will need this - and can contribute with this - you are welcome to create a project on dev.xoops.org

Even if the module becomes rather narrow or specialised, it may serve as a starting point for a more general CRM module.

It's up to you
