Help !!! Error could not connect to forums database

I have apparently heve jacked my forum trying to get back to version 1 newbb post appear to be there but when you click on a forum i get this error

Error could not connect to forums database

Can anybody help me get this repaired ???

could you explain this more clearly?

you mean you were using newbb2 and you try to get back to newbb old one and now your whole forum is messup?

is that what you trying to say?

Yes crazy I know but i goofed it up here is the link you can see it looks normal when you get to the forum all the categories are there and post but when you click on anything it returns the error could not connect to database. Im in over my head here.

I dont have many post but need to keep things intact.

Maybe you can try do php debug.

I know newbb1 and newbb2 has different database structure.
did you backup your database before your made any changes?

Yep I was afraid to try a restore but i did and forum is back functional again. Thanks the only problem I have now is the private messages do not work that is why i tried upgrading in the first place when you click on them it is like a dead link nothing happens. ???
