Removing IPB Forum Module ?

I installed the IPB forum module and then realised that it was not a proper module and had hacks to core files.

I removed the module in the administration section. Does this mean the core files are back as they should be ?

If not, how do I remove it completely ?

To 'install' IPB, the IPB core files for XOOPS need to be downloaded from the bbpixel website then uploaded via FTP. You need to overwrite, or in some cases add the files manually to the XOOPS core folders.

If you just run the installer (without uploading the files), I dont *think* any existing XOOPS core files will be affected. You should be able to carry on as if you had un-installed any other module.

m0nty is the IPB expert and should be able to clarify this.

If you are looking for an alternative, a new version of CBB (an enhanced version of NewBB 2) is due out soon which has some good forum features. It is a standard XOOPS module so you can install/un-install through admin.

No I uploaded the files so they copied over some core files. Can I just copy those original core files back ?

I will be looking into CBB but not until I am sure I have cleanly uninstalled IPB.

I asked m0nty this very question before I installed IPB and he said yes - that would restore your Xoops.

However, I made backups of the core files that were already on the server as I replaced them with the IPB versions. I don't know if replacing them with files from a XOOPS distribution will work, because I confess I don't know if any of the files are changed during installation of Xoops.

Personally, I would wait for a more definitive answer on this before trying it.

yes, if you restore the files from your original XOOPS 2.0.10 zip and replace the ones that the ipb module overwrote, your XOOPS will work as normal.

Thanks.

Is there any likelihood of IPB becoming a proper module which doesn't overwrite any core files ?

Being very new to Xoops, PHP, etc I am very wary of messing around with it too much which is the reason I decided to uninstall IPB.

The trouble is that the latest version is commercial, which makes that quite tricky to do
