Internet Explorer

2 days live in the newbb2 and my internet explorer users are complaining about the pages crawling. I have changed and played with Image Type setting to all 3 and none seem to make a difference.

Is there anything else I can try?

short of asking billy no gates to sort his browser out.. 1 suggestion i could suggest is to use the latest CBB 1.12 forum..

it is exactly the same as Newbb2 including the folder name etc and database tables..

but it has some improvements and added features.. 1 of those features is the option in admin of selecting what type of user interface to use.. either 'hover' or 'click' menus, if u select click menu then the menus work by clicking them instead of having the fancy drop down boxes.. it will definitely help with speed regarding IE. and it's definitely worth the try..

the developer who made CBB is/was also 1 of the developers of Newbb2..

I'm using NewBB 2.02 and have set it to use GIF images which seems to have sorted out a few speed issues. It also depends on what NewBB features you have enabled.

Brash,

What features have you turned off for you to see a difference? I changed the image setting to the GIF and my IE users say its a tad better but still very slow. I was wondering what else I could do.

Monty,

We just went live with the newbb2 and it was a hassle to switch over. I run a site for women and they get catty over change. I don't think myself or them can handle another forum change at the moment. Do you know anything at all I can do within this newbb2 forum to speed it up?

if you are using newbb2 then updating to CBB is painless.. as no scripts need to be run, all you have to do is copy the files to the server and then update the module in XOOPS admin to redo the templates..

then set the preferences in admin.. (also add a couple of css classes to your theme style.css file) all in all it should only take a few minutes..

to speed newbb2 up, i can't suggest anything brash hasn't other than turning off any features that aren't needed or used..

Re: Internet Explorer

Is there anyone running CBB? I would like to see it before I put it live.

One more question, will everything port over? I lost all my permissions when I installed newbb2 and was hoping I did't have to go through that again.
