News modules questions?

Hello!

I've just been playing with XOOPS now for a week or two in order to create a database driven site rather than my old-school static site! I've uploaded version 1.3 of the News module in order to get some of the new features but there are a couple of things I can't quite work out.

1. Is it possible to have multiple "recent news" blocks? I'd like to have a left hand block which has only recent news from 1 specific topic while still keeping a recent news block in the centre with all of the latest news.

2. Is it possible to remove the print, email and pdf functionality from the bottom of a news article?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi Marc,

1) Yes, but would involve editing files to create additional blocks I think.

2) Yes, it should be. Have a read of the FAQ's regarding templates and you should find you are able to customise the look of any module quite a bit using the XOOPS templating system.

Hey Brash,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Ok, I'll have a look at the block code for the recent news then. I've just checked out the code and I should be able to add a secondary block pretty easily I think!

Ah yes, templates! I'll check out the FAQ and have a look.

Thanks for your help,
Marc

Have a look in modinfo.php (I think) in the News root for creating extra blocks. I've done it before, but can't remember exactly how.

Ok thanks. I'll check it out.

I've just noticed another issue too.
I'm adding new topics but I can't post (or edit) a news item to use this new topic only the 2 topics that I created prior to the upgrade to version 1.3.

Any ideas?

Have you set the permissions?

Doh! I forgot that version 1.3 has permissions on a per-topic basis!

It would be nice if it allowed the webmaster to automatically have permissions but it's not a biggy.

Thanks again for your help!
