Is there a way to set how NewBB shows the threads in the forums? For example, I don't want to give my users the option of having it appear threaded, but flat only.

What do I need to do, and where do I need to do it to set the entire board to a "flat" setting?

Thanks!

Chuck

Look in the preferences for the modules. You can set it up there. Also, after you make the change, it will only take effect for users that register after the change. Everyone else will retain thier default settings, however you can go into thier profile and make the change manually, or make the change directly in the databaes if you have a lot of users.

To prevent users from being able to change thier view style, set the View Mode of the Threads to "None". You can also find this in the forum preferences. You'll need to be runnign at least newbb2.x in order to turn the view mode off.

Oh, I don't think the latest version of newbb has been posted in the module repository yet, so you'll need to get it form the Dev Forge.

Well, that was an interesting adventure in what not to do.

I downloaded the latest and greatest, uploaded it to my host, and wham! One dead forum! Completely whiped it out.

Fortunately, I had the backup on my pc and just uploaded it and I'm back up and running.

Guess I'll just leave it the way it is and let folks just enjoy what's available.

Cloefke: Did you run the update script? Lots of changes from newbb1 to newbb2 that require database changes etc.
It should be described in the readme how to do it.

I've tried the update about 4 times so far, and although I'm not an expert at this, its definitely not working, or I'm doing something wrong.

All I get when I update is pretty much an empty forum with no categories or anything.

So, this is what I'm willing to do. If one of the program specialist/writers are willing to help, I'll toss my admin login and password your way, and just let you go in and do what needs to be done.

Any trustworthy takers?

Okay... thanks for the info on the flash. I followed it to a "T" (and nicely done might I add), and the same thing happened. All I get when I view the forum after the upgrade is a series of alternating colored lines, with some instructional links to the right side (view, read, blah-blah), but no data, no categories, no forums.

Is there something else I'm doing wrong or additional steps I need to do that is not listed in the flash?

Re: NewBB and Flat Threads

I just went to your site to view the forum. It has the look of the module not being updated in the module admin page. If you have done this correctly it should list as version 2 in the module admin list. If it is already listed as version 2 then that was done correctly.

There is one other cause of this that I can think of. If you use a cloned template set, the module update will change the templates in your default template set. If you are using a cloned template set, the will not update the clone. You will have to do that manually in the templates admin page, or simply clone a new template set.

HTH.

Actually, when I saw that it didn't take, I put the old back up. I'm in the process of redoing the upgrade now and saw that there is an additional upgrade (2.02) that I'm going to toss there as well.

I can tell I'm definitely a rookie on this, so what exactly will I have to do with the template set?

It should only be a problem if you are using a cloned template set.

Go to Admin - Preferences - General Settings, 11 line down, "Default template set" if it is set to default, nothing to worry about here. If another set is listed as the default template set, then you would need to update the template set.

The thing is you would of had to clone the template set to have another copy, and since you do not seem to know what I am referring to I will assume that you did not.

Cloned templates make it possible to edit the templates themselves. That is the purpose. You cannot edit the default template set.

Hope I am not confusing you too much.
