I am running XOOPS 2.0.7.3. It comes with News 1.1. I would like to try another version, but there appears to be ongoing development with the module. Can anyone recommend the most stable release?. I appear to have the choice of:

News 1.2.1 RC1 (apparently a bugfix version of 1.2)

New 1.3 RC2 (the latest RC of News 1.3)

I don't need anything fancy, but text formatting and image placement etc. needs to work reliably!

Stable (latest) News is 1.2.1 (without RC) - used by me on 1 site and (I suppose) - here, at xoops.org

News 1.3RCs I use more widely and (for now, probably only I) can discover only one visible headache with "new style" Latest News block - can't define colors for different parts of this block, nothing more bad...

Which version to use?! Well, "it depends..."
If you want to use WYSIWYG-editors - you have to select 1.3. If articles ratings are your interest - you have to select 1.3. If you (as I can do it now) want to write news "on behalf" of other site-members - you have to select 1.3

Thx LazyBadger. I went with 1.3 RC2. Installed fine, although I did a fresh install. My only comments are:

1) It would be good to mention the folder permissions requirements in a readme, rather than wait until you are in admin to spot the warning notice.

2) I appreciated the warning about the three submit buttons in the permissions screen, because you don't see the other two forms at 800 x 600. I think however the warning should say 'There are 3 forms below. Press the submit button on each form after ticking the boxes' I instinctively pressed the last button at the foot of the page and of course I had only set the permissions for the last form.

Other than that, it seems fine. RSS works and 'save article as PDF' feature is cool!
