I am having the same problem but with mine the tip doesn't work. I am consistent but I am replacing the main menu, because I don't want the sub menus, with multimenu 1.5 and I put in thehttp://sitename/modules/modulename for the link but the browser is inserting the www in the front of the site name so it makes me log in again once the login is complete it goes back to the sitename without the www. I would always use the www in the front. I would like a solution that would accept either www or no www in the address. Is there a way to change the session to accept both?

Check mainfile.php to see whether you're using the "www".

Delete any existing cookies (with and without the "www").

To avoid the problem, you could (in theory) use mod_redirect inside an .htaccess file to redirect requests using "www" to a URL without the "www", or vice versa.
