I dont have a good bandwith in my site, so i want to know how i can add the option of avatars in external links, like the phpBB and Invision foruns... I search in many options in admin but i cant find this option... I can't believe thats not possible, because many webmasters choose accept only external links of avatars to preserve the serv storage...

Sorry for insist, but someone know if is possible put external images links for the avatars?

I think my site will down if i put the avatars images in my own server, so the best way for me is the option for users put their own image links, preserving the bandwith of the site...

That's a good question, and I don't know the answer so I'm gently bumping this post

Avatars are part of the XOOPS core functions, so I don't think the forums module has much say it how it works. If it's not possible to link to external avatars, and it is a core (and not module) feature, I suggest you add it as a core feature request, at the XOOPS SourceForge development site.

There are old topics floating around on this. My opinion is that server based avatars are much preferred over external linking. Avatars are typicaly less than 1K and since they are cached by the browser they only use the server's bandwidth one time. External avatars have other problems that are a much bigger issue than a little bandwidth. Overall, local avatar storage is faster and safer.

You still have the signature which does allow external linking. I'm not a big fan of external links even there.

BTW, my server is on low bandwidth too and I never had a problem because of avatars.
