Myth,

I said I'd get back to you with some hard numbers, so here goes....

Theory: "...there seems to be a slight performance lag with 2.0.7.3."

Conclusion: There is a *slight* performance lag with 2.0.7.3 versus previous versions.

Granted, the difference in performance is minimal, and only a hypersensitive ubergeek like myself would notice the difference; much less spend 8 hours testing to prove the existance of the difference. Nevertheless, there does seem to be a trend. The most suprising result is how 2.0.7.3 performs on refresh with a full templates_c folder and browser cache. I thought the two were designed to speed things up, not slow them down.

At any rate, these are my results for what they are worth. Was I picking the fly poop out of the pepper? Probably, but I said I'd give you facts and that's what I'm giving you.

How many times did you refresh the page in order to get the execution time?

As I see it, yes, there has been a very slight increase, but what is causing it, I cannot say. One query has been added to the load since 2.0.4, which was before I got really involved, so I cannot remember, what was changed - apart from 2.0.4 being the version that introduced the grouppermform.

Interesting reading, but not really anything, I can use to much (sorry - I do appreciate the work, you've done, but the results are in my opinion inconclusive)

The Load Time & Query results are the average of three seperate tests each. The WebSiteOptimization.com Results are the results of just one test each.

Well, I tend to agree. The variation between the tests, even in a controlled environment, was such that it left me scratching my head a couple times. 2.0.6 and 2.0.7.3 were consistantly slower than 2.0.5, but when you're talking by tenths of a second, it's hardly worth worrying about.

Nevertheless, I put my research where my mouth is. . I said I'd get you some numbers and I did.

The benefit of the tests is now I have a baseline to compare future versions and other CMSs to Xoops.

I'll keep looking for ways to pitch in.

HELP!
I too, just got this error message on my server.
The system has been up and running for a few months now, working well.

Last night it was working well,
this morning...the error appeared.

I went into the phpMyAdmin but there too I got this...

#2013 - Lost connection to MySQL server during query

UPDATE! I was able to log in to the main index page for a while but now back to no connection....

During this time I also logged in to phpMyAdmin and managed I think to dump the database

I am not a panicky person but this is very disconcerting. Any and all light that you might be able to shed would be welcomed.
If there is any testing that I could do which may help then please just ask.

From the thread so far, it seems that the load can perhaps cause database connection problems but for the time-being, I just don't see how it could change overnight.

Is it possible that a user uploaded a file that has suddenly put too much stress on the server?

Do I have too many modules (I have around 15 or so)
Do I have too much data?? Should I be considering these factors or not?

Any help at all.

no.. it means ur MySQL server is not there or not connecting.. if u can't access it usin any other means such as phpmyadmin, then u need to contact your host and tell them the problem..

So, can I put that down as a reasonable sequence of bughunting.?
If you get this message.
Try to contact via phpMyAdmin or other admin interface.
If that too does not work, then it is the server directly and not related to Xoops.

Is that correct?


Does anyone know what kind of things could be causing a server to have outages (for want of a better word?)
It seems very odd to be coming and going i.e. can connect, cannot connect etc.

I had my site setup and running fine. After going thru the Lamp and XOOPS lock down I get this error.

I spoke to soon. When I did the lamp lock down I changed the root password and then didn't change it in mainfile.php. My bad
