Just got through the installation. First time I launched the admin page, I got the red boxes stating to delete the install folder and change the mainfile.php to read only. I did both, but still get the warning message about the mainfile.php. I double-checked the file permissions on my server, and it does states it's read only. What gives?

This is interesting. I never heard about this problem before and never facing this problem. But one question, how do you chmod the thing? Are you make it chmod 444?

Try it with chmod 644

Most times you will have to do it through the cpanel file management utility. FTP sometimes does not stick chmod 444, if you do it and check it on the server it could be chmod 644.

I'm using a web GUI (made by Ensim) to access files on my server. It doesn't use CHMOD, just tick boxes for read or write permissions. CuteFTP won't even display the permission status on files. I've even tried copying the file to my PC, deleting it on the server, changing the privileges to read only on the PC and resend to the server, but no effect. Could this be a server issue? I simply don't know how to access my server to perform a CHMOD command.

Thanks for the tip Marco. I just tried smartftp, and the server won't accept the mod, so it must be an access privilege at the host.

Still no luck with the change.php approach. since I'm a newbie at this, and this could be a dumb question, could it be related to the fact it may be a Windows server?
