How do you put stuff on the home page?

I can put news in the new section and every post i make, i check the show on home page button but nothing appears. All i have is the navigation bar on the side.

You need to make the news section the default module for your site. You do that by accessing the general settings in the admin menu. Also, play with the blocks, as they help organize the info on your site.

I reordered the modules with no solution.

to make news module appear in the 1st page, go to admin menu -> system -> preferences -> edit general settings -> start module = news.
