I am installing a test instance of XOOPS on my local machine, I had the green lights all the way until I hit next on the confirm database settings. I have a blank white screen in the browser.

I'm running the latest ga xoops, php and MySql

What could it be?thomas.dicostanzo@fmglobal.com

have u read the FAQ section regarding installation problems and blank pages?

also u say ur using the latest versions..

exactly what versions?

xoops 2.0.7.3 is not compatible with PHP 5 which could be the case..

That fixed my blank screen issue, now I have could not connect to database server issue, I am using MySql 4.1. I reinstalled, made sure I had correct username and password. does the XOOPS install create the db for me?

Well, I have the same issue before, properly the developers need to find out the problems or may that's the problem of compatibe issue of PHP5??

I have had PHP 5.0.2, MySQL 4.1.7 and Apache 2.0.52 and follow the FAQ page but no help, finally I go back to PHP 4.3.9, MySQL 4.0.22 without any problems.

I used the MySql 4.1 version because it had the windows installer, I guess I will have to try the next version down and manually install it.

Thanks

If you are mixing MySQL and PHP versions without compiling you can have conflicts with the newer MySQL and PHP that is compiled with older client libraries. 4.0x versions are a safer bet to work. XOOPS doesn't create the database but creates the tables inside a database already set-up.

As Don says, but a slight correction..

Xoops should/will create the database during installation, providing the DB user you specify has permissions to create databases in the MySQL privileges section.. otherwise you need to create the database 1st..

also i have XOOPS working fine on my home pc using;

Apache 2.0.52
MySQL 4.1.7
PHP 4.3.9

so it definitely works with MySQL 4.1, so it maybe as don mentioned that it maybe conflicting..

Hmm, I keep getting a message with the red light saying, Could not connect to the database server. I have checked and re-checked the user has access to create. Is there something I am missing as far as the rights XOOPS has to check DB connectivity? I saw that a successful install has connection Successful and then creating tables

Still no luck with the DB connectivity, I installed, MySql administrator, and I thought I would try to create the DB first, thinking may XOOPS was having trouble doing that. But I have not found how to create the db.
