I've just recently started using XOOPS, and for some reason my mind has failed me.

I'm running two sites, on one server. Would it be possible to run two XOOPS installations from one database on the server? Or does it require having 2 separate ones?

(Like I said, dumb question, everything I know about programming is screaming I'm an idiot)

yes u can :)

during installation u can set what database prefix XOOPS users, and all tables will be prefixed with what you choose..

Awesome
Thanks
Works like a charm
Saves on having my admin getting involved to make me more DBs :)

If you set the same prefix and DB would it work and pull the same data. Two sites one DB?

I know it can be done, but is it this simple?

it would.. but both sites would be identical.. which means the config settings would be too.. so u wouldn't be able to have different domain names etc..

if ur after sharing tables etc, then do a search for true multisites hack.. or nip over to sourceforge.net and look up the project Xoops2be.. >http://sourceforge.net/projects/xoops2be/

it's still in beta.. but it does work and allows u to share tables between sites.. using the same DB.. it uses 2.0.7.3 core.

also bd_csmc i think would be the best person to speak to regarding that as i think he has another version he is working with..

apparently so
I'm now running two completely different sites from one DB with different options and whatnot (and all I did was what he said, I made a new prefix for the second site)

Between the 2 sites I have different modules, one has a custom theme I made, and different users/overall settings, and I'm running them both from the same DB. so, I don't think that's entirely correct as you say that they have the same settings (they aren't sharing tables, the tables for site 2 are prefixed different)

@M0nty - Thanks for the info. I knew that is was not that simple. I hope this is a future release include. I do not need it, but I can see others might.

Thanks,

@veria, jmass is on about something a little different to what u are thinking..

@jmass well xoops2be probably won't make it.. but i believe the developers are working on a multisites function to be included in the next versions of xoops.. not sure if it will make it to the 2.1/2.2 release tho.. but it is on the features and to do list :)

Good point, but anyway, here's what I'm talking about

Two sites on one server, 2 different XOOPS installs, both using the same DB. Here's what they look like.
