Hi and help (please)

I was trying to upgrade to Newbb RC2 but things have gone bad.
After reading the instructions to remove the old newbb - I uninstalled it (I bet that was wrong)
Ran upgrade script 1_to 2, got a red flag on every step.
Then was unable to install newbb

I then
removed new newbb, restored old newbb and updated. Still have my site but no forum entries. Using Cpanel I then restored MySQL backup. It came up with a new name (the backup file name) At this stage I was getting the error line 34 page for my site
So I thought (never good when I think)delete old XOOPS DB and rename the uploaded backup to XOOPS (using phpadmin)

Now I have a DB that has the right name, user and password.
and a blank page.

I have checked and mainfile.php has the correct DB name

All of my XOOPS files and images are on server.

Could anyone please let me know what I can do to get my site back (apart from the obvious of dont keep trying to break it when you have no idea)

delete the old

Have restored it.
1st lesson learnt - backups are handy (only lost two forum posts)
2nd lesson learnt - know how to restore it. Was restoring database via Cpanel, but not running the script in phpmyadmin
3rd Lesson - put off upgrading - tried three times and never get it right.
