I have made two welcome pages, one for anonymous users and one for logged in users. It works like a charm, except sometimes when a user logs in, he is dropped into his user profile screen rather that the welcome page. Why is that? I would like the user to always see the welcome screen first after logging on. Most of the time it works great, but once every so often, he is dropped into the user profile screen.

How can I always guarantee that the welcome screen is the first screen that shows?

Users would always be re-directed to their profiles if they had failed in their first login.

You probably don't need to modify user.php file, try modify just the checklogin.php file first.
