My host does not have the (444) in the list of permissions.
there is (600,644,666,700,744,755,777) I have tried them all and i get the same error message.

WARNING: File /home/www/xxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxx.com/mainfile.php is writeable by the server.
Please change the permission of this file for security reasons.
in Unix (444), in Win32 (read-only)

You should be able to use any FTP program to change the permissions of a file or folder. Connect via FTP, select and right click your file and look for anything realated to changing permissions,(attributes or CHMOD)select, then do it manually.
