Do the file check (see release notes), to see if all files were update correctly (errors for moved xoops_lib and xoops_data and deleted install directories are normal).
Verify the allowed port for smtp.

I still have have this problem too. I wonder if I ever will get this sorted.

As I said in an earlier post. I have tried everything!

at last I figured out what the problem was by comparing files and db tables of a fresh 2.4.5 installation and my upgraded 2.2.4 to 2.4.5 site
there seems to be a bug in the upgrade procedure, the filed in the configuration table which contains information about smtp in the updated 2.2.4 to 2.4.5 db was declared as a text field while in the fresh 2.4.5 db it is an array
by changing manually the field type to "array" in the upgraded db and modifying consequently it's content, the mailer started working

Thanks integra! I knew it was something with DB. Maybe I can get this sorted aswell.

I'm a such I noob.. I can't figure out what exactly to change. I'm using PhpMyAdmin but I see 'array' in list.

Here is how it looks for me:

Should I change conf_formtype or conf_valutetype? I'm confused. And which more conf names should I change??

Please help. I'm so close now

Solved it! I compared the tables with my local install.
