As a newbie I don't see how I can have a block on the front page which, for example, shows RSS feed pulled in from another site> Any help much appreciated.

These blocks are in general provided with RSS modules (see syndication). To have it in custom blocks, you need something like rss2html.

I'm using RSS Center module to import a feed. How would I set this up to bring the items into a block - I can't find any generic block which can do this.

What version do you have?
You have a directory /modules/rssc/blocks?
Then you should be able to make them visible and set them up in admin - blocks.

OK< I really don't understand this at all. I can see the admin blocks page but I can't create a block which shows any content from any of the modules. For example, how would I create a block (step-by-step please) for one of the Forum modules (or, if you prefer) any module that is not a simple html custom text module. Thx.

Sorry but the operation guide isn't very helpful and doesn't even get close to answering the question.

Is there anyone out there who can answer my question about creating a block which shows something from an installed module with a step-by-step example? That would be very helpful. Thank you.

What do you want to achieve specifically?

If it is just a matter of showing RSS feeds from other sites then e.g. the XHLD has a block that can do that (and I'm sure others do too).

If it is actually to create a custom block to pull whatever data you want from a module then you have to create a new custom block and put some PHP code in it that extracts the relevant data from the module's tables.

Did you read section 2.5?

OK. Before, when I looked under 'blocks generated by [eg Forum]' there were none, nor under any of the others and I couldn't see how to create them. It didn't make sense to me and I couldn't see why there were blocks relating to the system but not for any of the other modules.

When I selected 'blocks generated by [eg Forum]' then it has to read:

'Blocks visible in "All Types"

or nothing shows up - presumably because I haven't created any blocks which might show under other circumstances. I don't think this is too clear in the instructions. In the light of this 'discovery' I have looked at the Operation Guide again (sec 2.5) to see if I had missed something. I don't think so. It is unfortunate that for whatever reason the default setting on the blocks admin section is not the one which shows up the blocks available to a particular module. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.
