date problem

I noticed that my XOOPS site is having a time/date problem.

I was fairly sure that when I first installed debian i set the server up as EST (usa) and on the XOOPS system config I set it up as EST (USA - UMT -5)

but when people were posting messages and pm's and emails etc it was showing the incorrect time.

The only way I could fix this was to set my XOOPS system config to UMT -0

Which has now solved the problem but wondering if this is a 2.2 problem in that it no longer recognises the debian date or if it's something I'm doign wrong on my pc.

(also does someone know how to access the gui time date setup for debian?)

TIA,
Dean

Try the shell command: date

And run the php script:

And see if the output is what you expect.

Re: date problem

lol, sorry for asking newbie questions but how do i run php script, obviously what i posted below isn't the answer.

TIA,
Dean

cognationweb1:~# date
Fri Sep 2 11:57:17 EDT 2005
cognationweb1:~#
-bash: syntax error near unexpected token `('
cognationweb1:~#

(also for a second part question how do I get rid of the ~#

I'm sure it didn't use to look like that).

Create a .php file containing and then browse to it.

The ~# is just the command prompt. That's usually configured in ~/.bash_profile or ~/.bashrc (assuming that bash is the shell you're using). Look for the enviroment variable PS1. The command "man bash" documents the syntax.

Re: date problem

lol sweet thats the first php file I have ever created

ok

so here is what it replied

Fri, 02 Sep 2005 12:16:26 -0400

here is what i get from the console prompt

cognationweb1:~# date
Fri Sep 2 12:16:59 EDT 2005
cognationweb1:~#

but the XOOPS system is saying default time is set for UMT (eg thinks its in London)

so this appears to me to be a problem with 2.2.3 in that ti is ignoring me saing my server is located in the east coast usa and is set to local time.

does all that make sense?

Cheers,
Dean

Check that the "Server timezone" in the general settings is set properly.

Re: date problem

thats what I'm sayign the problem is.

the XOOPS server time zones were set for EST but it caused problems.

Only when I changed them to UMT was the right time being associated with pm's emails and posts.

Is this not happening for all XOOPS 2.2.3 users? or does no one else care about correct timing on their messages?

Cheers,
Dean

Yup, I thought it was just me too.
My XOOPS should be set to:
Server timezone (GMT -6:00) - Central Time
Default timezone (GMT -8:00) - Pacific Time

But the only way I could get it to display the correct time is to have it set to:

Server timezone (GMT +2:00) - Athens, Istanbul, Minsk
Default timezone (GMT -8:00) - Pacific Time

Something is definately wrong...

Re: date problem

I was having a same problem:( My time zone is (GMT-8:00) Pacific Time (US&Canada) and when I set the Server & Default timezone to it it was a day wrong. Now it's pointing the correct date after chaning the Server timezone to (GMT+9:00) Tokyo, Seoul, Osaka, Sapporo, Yakutsk. I'm an absolutely monkey when it comes to PHP, SQL and such but could it because XOOPS is originaly been developed in Japan??? Well... please don't laugh if I'm saying something stupid...
