i did install newbb2 now and forumpages opens very very slow. Like here in this forum too.

Is it a bug ?

Is it normal ?

The editor page opens very fast.

Should i use another forum - as example newbb1 or phpbb2 etc. ?

Is it possible to use newbb2 later ( when this problem is solved 9 ?

In module preferences you can turn on
'Enable Cache'
Store some intermediate results in session to save queries.

Turn off some unused features, cleans your page up allot too. Hope it helps!

My experience has been that enabling cache (even for just 5 minutes) expands all the flyout menus, creating a very ugly looking page, not to mention the apparent change in functionality.

Even in a very small forum, there seems to be a huge number of objects being loaded (I've seen 100 - 200 objects loading - and the page load still isn't completely rendered!) The number of queries isn't what's slowing it down (only 60 queries on my main page) At the current usage of our site, this is not an immediate concern. But, as usage grows, I do see the server load becoming an issue, and the slow page loads a useability issue.

I like the functionality NewBB2 provides, and it fills the bill for our organization. I'm hoping for some optimization to speed things up.

Steve

I surf on a lot of xoops-websites. Also world-wide support websites.
In resambling to the previous newbb module this latest version newbb(2) is extremely slow on every xoopswebsite I visit and using this module. I don't think you solve it only with cache-settings and less images.
To my personal opinion Forum loading time is much to slow. Although I'm on cable and running fast, during my surfing on every newbb2 xoopsforums I always feel like I'm using the telephone......

Don't know what exactly causes this slow loading, but it would be great if there will be a developers look at it to optimize it.

@ Herko:
I am sorry to say, but yes Herko also on xoops.org the forum is loading much to slow. Offcourse I keep in mind on how many visitors are online, but apart from that, yes the newbb2 forum on xoops.org stays indeed to slow.
Like I already mentioned, this newbb2 slowloading issue is happening on a lot of xoopswebsites. That is why I think this has something to do with the module itself.

Did you try disabling fast replay?

I tested this thread on Web Page Analyzer and I got this:

Quote:
Download Times*
Connection Rate Download Time
14.4K 160.55 seconds
28.8K 80.38 seconds
33.6K 68.92 seconds
56K 41.43 seconds
ISDN 128K 12.83 seconds
T1 1.44Mbps 1.30 seconds

*Note that these download times are based on the full connection rate for ISDN and T1 connections. Modem connections (56Kbps or less) are corrected by a packet loss factor of 0.7. All download times include delays due to round-trip latency with an average of 0.2 seconds per object. With 59 total objects for this page, that computes to a total lag time due to latency of 11.8 seconds. Note also that this download time calculation does not take into account delays due to XHTML parsing and rendering.

For more results, feel free to test it yourself.

I've just posted a short performance comparision of NewBB 1 Vs NewBB 2 on my site. Results of this article should only be taken as a very rough guide at best, and should NOT be taken as fact.

thanx brash for this amazing document.
i have a question about your newbb 2 optimization.
you disable almost all additional features in newbb2.
Quote:
# Img Type = GIF
# Enable Cache = Yes
# Enable Media Features = No
# Enable Who's Online = No
# Enable HP/MP/Exp Mod = No
# Enable Userbar = No
# Enable Groupbar = No
# Enable Thread Rating = No
# Enable Quick Reply = No
# Enable RSS Feed = No
# Show Jumpbox = No
# Show Permissions Table = No
# Enable Karma Requirement = No

personally i realy need to have all of them expect HP/MP/Exp , RSS Feed , Karma Requirement. do you think if i disable only these 3 the performance rise enough?
