So if I just delete that line of code, then people can use spaces? I guess I will make a copy of that file, rename it, then work on the original copy. If it screws things up, I can just name the copied file back to the original name, right???

Can anyone confirm that David's idea is what I should do?

I don't want to mess with something that could cause problems, unless I am pretty sure it will work, problem free.

Thanks.

David,

Thanks for the info. I was pretty sure it was something that could be done.

Howver, I am not quite sure how to do that. How would I backtrack from the error message?

Justin

If that is the case, then why can I log in as an administrator and change their username to include a space? They are able to log in using a space, they just can't create it that way.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I am trying to allow my site's users to register with usernames in this format: "firstname lastname". This is not working because they get the following error:

ERROR: Invalid Username
There cannot be any spaces in the Username.

After they register with a username that does not include a space, I can go in and change their username to the desired "first last" format.

Is there a way to just allow them to include a space in their username when they register to begin with?

Thank you,
Justin

Skenow,

ok, so I just created a test user and activated using the email sent to my admin account.

A notification email was sent out. So I stand corrected.

Since you seem to know what you are doing, maybe you can help me even further.

It would be great if new users could just create their accounts with the username in this format "first last" to begin with, instead of me having to change it. Is that possible?

Thanks for the help,
Justin

ok, here is the issue in more detail.

We want our users' usernames to be "firstname lastname".

By default, users are not allowed to have a space in their username.

To remedy this, we ask that they register with whatever they want as their username, and once they register we will activate their account and change their username to "firstname lastname".

An email is not being sent to the users letting them know that their account is now active.

skenow,

Users are not receiving an email after the admin activates the account. I thought they would, but they are not... not sure why.

Anyone???

Hello,

I have my site set up so that new user accounts have to be activated by an administrator. How do I make it so that once the administrator activates the account an email will be sent to the user notifying them that their account is now active, and they can log in?

Is this something that can be done automatically, or will I have to manually send an email to each new user?

I understand that if I set it up so that users activate their own accounts, they will receive an email, but I really want to have each new account activated by an administrator.

Thanks in advance,
Justin
