Ok - well I'd suggest seeing if anyone else is interested in this system - and perhaps someone (yourself perhaps?) contacting the developer and finding what would exactly be required from the CMS to integrate with his code.

Then the only major thing is to get a developer involved - but at least you would have a start ...

Yes davidl2,

A very down to earth way of doing things, thanks a lot for your reply and suggestions.

cheers.

Hi our mod,
Yes, tes, yes, thats a far, far better way to put it !

Guess we could say "Spot On Cobber" !!!

Bridges are probably the professional way to put it, unfortunately some CMS have problems with "full intergration" involving themes.

cheers,

coup (admin)

ps. A very important point and word "BIG THANKS" ! ........ an ask with "Humble Thanks" from all those who want to run an XOOPS Site with TNG Genealogy option for their end users.

regards ..... c

Hi davidl2,
If you are referring to the mention of TNG ?

TNG is the world's best known Genealogy Web Building Software Solution.

Hi,
Well with 2 copies of TNG ( The Next Generation in Genealogy Web Creation Software ) only about 12 to 48 hours away. I guess we are like a mob of chooks with their heads cut off.

Doesn't seem XOOPS has quite yet caught up with the 21st Century.

Perhaps a coder might take up the yoke and write the necessary patch and or module. That will give us frames or no frames ( full screen) for TNG, and intergrated once off log in for both XOOPS and TNG. Sure beats haveing two big domains users logging in twice.

Any coders interested in getting a nice slick and smooth intergration thing going for TNG version 5.x

Sorry i'm not a coder, but willing to be a beta tester anytime.
post a reply here and or contact me at

Thanks. cheers.

Hello,
I've run into a post module install problem with phpGenView + the XOOPS pvg 1.0 RC + the worm patch. And frankly i have no idea why, XOOPS modules are largely just upload the unzipped folder into the server XOOPS module directory. Login in activate the mod.... so simple !

.....normally !

I have pgpGenView installed under XOOPS under public_html in a folder named pvg. I over wrote some of the original install by using FileZilla to up load into the pvg web server folder the pvg XOOPS patch.

After going to our web domain install of XOOPS logged in as admin went to the modules section and saw a warning along the top and at the bottom of the modules

................. that the module file could "not be found" !

Some more info

Web Hosting Server OS Linux
Kernel version 2.4.21-37.0.1.ELsmp
Xoops Version ver 2.0.13.1
PERL version 5.8.7
PHP version 4.4.1
MySQL version 4.0.25-standard
cPanel Build 10.8.1-STABLE 114
installed protector module ver 2.5
installed phpGenView ver 3.5.5
pgv XOOPS patch ver 1.0 RC

Any suggestions are welcome and much thanks.

cheers,
coupsadmin.

Hi folks,
Unfortunately I need that which I really don't want .... yet another module. Particularly if the Genealogy Module I really "DO NEED" ..... like ASAP .... like yesterday mon is

a.) You have to "PAY FOR IT" (we are totally NON I MEAN REALLY NON PROFIT.

b.) Hard to Administer

c.) Doesn't easily provide itself all of the trappings of linkages to uploaded black and white thumbnails (with text) with click on it and enlarge the image.

d.) Interrelated data involving births, deaths, marriages, contacts info aka. names, addresses, email addies, po box numbers, telephone numbers, fax numbers, and everything ad infinitum.

e.) Good Security Features

f.) and it's all FREE, FREE, FREE !!!

I really don't want to have to run 2 (TWO) CMS on our 2 Domains, 4 CMS is a bit of an overkill for 2 Web Portals in anyones language.

HELP ....... URGENT ADVICE NEEDED NOW !

Thanks in advance .......

regards,
coups

Check your general preferences in admin - I am sure a standard time of 15 minutes is set in cookie sessions (but I could be wrong). Anyway, as a general tip it pays to draft something up offline in a text editor - (notepad) and then you won't need 15 minutes to copy and paste on line.

Thanks for your reply jensclas,

You know you are absolutely righ about off line preparation of large text based blocks.

The standard time of 15 minutes is set in cookie sessions thing has to be enabled it is off by default. It's a seperate option to enable timed sessions of no activity.

So God knows what it then defaults to. There must be a built in default somewhere which comes into play if you don't enable the session time out in other words.

I wonder what the max time out above 15 minutes it will allow an admin to enter is though. I really can't see a maximum of 10 hours (600 minutes) as being too large until a site starts to generate big traffic usage.

thanks.

coups.

Hi,
I'm a bit hot under the collar, my session timed out haveing spent hours at hunt and peck keyboarding, putting together a text based article to appear in the middle of our home page.

Is there a time to live setting somewhere in the administrator options ?

I notice two cache settings which are disabled.

Thanks for any replys in advance.

regards,
coups

ps. I thought time to live problems only happened in mambo (he he.)

It's strange that your host doesn't have XOOPS listed in fantastico, my host has these cms's available:

Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla
Mambo Open Source
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
Typo3
Xoops

As Herko and David said, installing yourself is pretty simple, but if you do have issues, your sure to find an answer here.

Thanks bluenova,Herko and David,

Yes we were disapointed when they (our web hosting provider) no longer supplied phpnuke, xoops, typo3, and mambo to install under fantastico from cPanel. We have humbly asked why, today, in a support ticket.

Remember, if you do get stuck, the FAQ has answers to most common problems - failing that, the search will probably assist with other forum posters coming across and solving similar issues.

Thanks for your reply, yes it is a comfort to know we are not alone
