$xoops_pagetitle variable failing to load and display

This started happening more and more and now is all the time (like 50%).

The <{$xoops_pagetitle}> variable fails to load and items that use this variable show a blank.

Like the <title>, etc, nothing shows, but if you refresh, it will show up correctly, but might take a refresh or two.

This seems to happen as the site is taxed (IE - I hit several pages in a row and then it'll "fail" and produce a blank pagetitle.

I use this variable in the footer also and all instances of the variable are blank when it fails.

I suppose it's possible that as the site has gotten busier, the systems is causing it to fail more often, but why?

Google listings of pages are now over 50% "empty" and thus are just the generic module name and site name. So, it's not just browsers getting a "failed pagetitle", but spiders as well.

Anybody else seen this? Doesn't seem like a cache issue...

How can I force it to pull this variable even if it is busy? Or, just fix it to work 100% of the time?

Thanks.

GSiteCrawler - Anybody Have A Nice Filter List for Xoops?

I've started crawling with this tool and it's gonna take awhile because it's getting lots of unnecessary pages.

I've blocked the obvious, like print.php and rss.php URL's, but does anybody use this and have a comprehensive filter list for XOOPS based sites?

If you don't know, this is a nice sitemap creator. So, I suppose any filter list for any other sitemap creators would work too.

Thanks.

Hervé,

Last week when I started the topic Xoops Needs A Leader - Inquire Within, I wanted to suggest trying new ways to lead XOOPS as a project. Not necessarily remove or change the current leadership, but tweak the organizational process that has "seemed" to bog down progress. Allowing the engines (programmers like you) to work faster, more accurately and with more freedom and feedback. Hoping this would make everybody happier.

This, obviously, has not happened.

Language, anonymity and the inherent "form" of forums is causing more friction than is probably implied. Diplomacy is subverted through no fault of anyone and "seems" to lead to these long heated exchanges. The fact of little resolution or action happens after these exchanges is another matter. The action of "LOCKING" these heated messages is another, debatable, matter.

You, and other programmers, are XOOPS. Regardless of who is managing the forums, the finances, or the physical servers. XOOPS is not XOOPS.org or any other website (currently).

News is a critical module in Xoops. Thus you are a critical, and powerful, person in the XOOPS world. Any programmer that wishes can take on that power by contribution.

So please, unless you really hate XOOPS (and you don't do you?), take XOOPS where you want to take it. If you want to blend a more XOOPS Cube way of programming into XOOPS - do it. Joomlafy / Drupalfy something - do it. I doubt you would do anything that wouldn't be better for XOOPS to at least try. And this applies to other programmers / contributors as well.

What if you try some idea really outrageous? So what? That's what the testing branches are for. And, that idea just might revolutionize XOOPS - or get you the goofiest idea award until someone comes along with a crazier scheme. What's the harm?

I'm a big fan of not re-inventing the wheel. There are thousands of development projects out there that XOOPS can look to for organization and development process ideas. Ideas that will (can) strengthen XOOPS and the relationships between users, programmers and administrative personnel.

Hervé, go if you must right now, but please think about what YOU want to do, cause there are a lot of people that WANT what YOU want (this applies to ALL programmers). There are a lot of ideas floating around, I even have a few myself, that can make XOOPS a better place to work.

But the engines need to be happily running to accomplish anything.

What are the SEO implications of using this technique?

I have had a XOOPS site on the root domain folder for a year and have 1000's of google indexed pages - i now need to organize, but don't want to start over with google.

Various blocks not showing content - delayed hack?

Searched, but can't seem to find this issue (maybe another name for it?)..

Some blocks are now "content = empty." But not all. I've tried cache issues, restored database, restored all files, removed protector (not on) even tried to tweak the functions.php and cp-header.php files' cache-control settings, but somehow it's still doing this.( all files back to previously working originals) Hopefully it's something somebody's seen.

Please glance at flixer and see if you've seen this before. I'll leave it like this for the day, then I'll have to do something drastic.

I thought it might just be blocks with javascript, but no. I created a new custom block and even it won't show contents. (tech difficulties top center block - title does show).

Smarty debug shows the block and contents = empty.

Contents of those blocks IS in the database.

I was hacked 2 weeks ago, but the site has been working fine, they did not appear to come back after a short glance around. They used SPAW vulnerability and these files:

http://geocities.com/pupusdewa/arai.txt
http://perian-a.biz/suntik.txt

(these are amazing hacker php files - get it to run and you've got control)

I changed passwords and blocked stuff. This new problem did not occur until later when I was searching for possible changed files from the attack. No other later attempts were made according to the logs.

I don't THINK this problem is from the hack.

Thanks for help.

OOOOOOOhhhh - not a good idea changing this...

I changed all 3 that were being picked up by Google....

The news module one - crashed the whole XOOPS system - White page o' death.

PHPDebug did not yield much until I went to admin.php and got:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /homepages/28/d145648422/htdocs/flixer/modules/news/language/english/modinfo.php on line 9
Notice [PHP]: Constant _DB_POSLINE_DESC already defined in file modules/backup/language/english/modinfo.php line 24

So, There's a comparison check for these files?

Does anybody know what's the best way to change this info then?

Thanks. And don't try this at home.

And I think I'll change the others back until I know something.

Does anybody know where Google is getting this text? IE, what template file or whatever...A source pageview shows no text of the sort on the pages as shown below:

Flixer.com - Articles
Articles, Creates a Slashdot-like article section, where users can post articles and comment.
www.flixer.com/modules/AMS/ - 55k - Cached - Similar pages

Flixer.com - Links
Links, Creates a links section where users can link/submit/rate various links.
www.flixer.com/modules/wflinks/ - 18k - Cached - Similar pages

Flixer.com - News
News, Creates a Slashdot-like news section, where users can post news/comments.
www.flixer.com/modules/news/ - 38k - Cached - Similar pages

It's grabbing the module description from somewhere - and I'd like to be able to replace that text with something relevant. I believe I see the text it's getting in the INFO box of the module in the Module Admin section...

Thanks

Still can't upload anything to yahoo's servers using the XOOPS system...see topic below..

Is there a way to load new templates into the MySQL database manually?

I have them loaded on test system and could take them from that database...

PREVIOUS POST:

https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=31625&forum=27&post_id=138127#forumpost138127

Using Yahoo's servers.

Cache, templates_c and uploads directories seem to be writable
having permissions of... drwxrwxrwx

Tried both IE and Firfox...

Tried a smilie to see if uploading in general worked - nope. So, it's an uploading issue.

Anybody seen this...maybe a yahoo issue?

Worked fine on local production server...

Thanks.

Latest version of XOOPS (2.0.9.2) and PHP Version 4.3.6 is on Yahoo's servers.

Wish there was some way to just ftp it, but I believe that's not possible.
