upgrade instructions no worky

Is there somewhere that I can find steps to do an upgrade of Xoops? I have 2.0.6. I just recently d/l'd the tarball of 2.0.6 to 2.0.7. The [very limited] instructions at the d/l site said to chmod my mainfile to 777, do the upgrade and chmod back to 444. Uh, ok...

I chmod'd my file
uploaded the tarball to my site in my XOOPS root
untarred it (got a "success" message on the untar)
re-chmod my file
log into my admin pages on my XOOPS site and see that I'm still at 2.0.6.

What gives?

Obviously I'm missing something, but I have no idea what.

Thanks for any help.

The Big Story

This sounds dumb, but how do I add a "big story"?

I'm assuming that "the big story" is common to all XOOPS since it was in my installation blocks. Even when signed in as admin I can't figure out how to post a "big story". My Big Story block displays w/ a line that says, "There is no big story for today."

This is driving me nuts! Please help.
TIA

Not quite sure how to ask this intelligently...

I need an online address book for my site. Something that will use my db. Fill out a form to add new entries to the address book, then allow for display of all or search on specific criteria (name, zip, etc.). Access to this will be "registered" users.

Do I need a module for this or do I build this w/ php in a block? I'm still getting used to the whole concept of xoops. Thanks.

Now i feel dumb. I stopped looking in the theme dev docs when I saw that page w/ the "asdsad adsdfde" stuff on it. Thanks. that'll help

I'm new to Xoops. So far I love it. Easy to install and use, but... the documentation kinda sucks.

Is there some good documentation somewhere on modding themes? It seems like there should be a list somewhere that says "go to this file and change this line to change X", where "X" would be the various images, colors, sizes and so on of the elements in the theme.

I have stumbled on some of these myself, but I'm SURE that someone somewhere has documented this. I don't see it in the Wiki.

Actually, I DON'T want the text centered, but for some reason it is. It only is centered when I choose the phpkaox template (it came w/ the install). When I use the default XOOPS template (or theme, I guess) the text is left-aligned. I did the center-center thing and top page. that was all pretty intuitive, but for some damn reason I can't get the text to left align.

I suppose I could use <span> tags, but that just doesn't seem right.

Ok I did the clone thing and the generate (that's not intuitive), but when I went to edit my block there is no template to edit. I see where all the other blocks have a template to edit but this is a custom block.

The reason I made a custom block may have been misguided. What I intended to do was have a description of my site that shows up on the main page and always stays there. Maybe there's a better way to do that.

[BTW, I did read the wiki docs on themes and templates, but they weren't too helpful. the docs seem to assume too much]

Hi, I'm new to XOOPS and like it a lot so far. I changed my prefs to use the phpkaox theme, but I don't like how the text w/in the blocks is centered. How can I change this? I looked inside the various css files but I don't see any "align: center" in those.

Everything about the install and setup went very smoothly, but the template/theme thing is kind of confusing.

Thanks
