Those lists do not make much sense. If I relate Tiki and Xoops. Tiki looks very good - and I like it somehow - but many features are totally buggy or crappy, so one should not use them. There are many things that I miss on Xoops, but I like its stability and this is much because it is programmed object orientated.

I suppose with PHP5 going more OO - XOOPS is going to profit a lot. I think XOOPS has a great future. And this is more important as if I switch portales monthly.

There may be more popular portal systems, but few are really better and continue the good work. XOOPS being on Top 10 on most active at Sourceforge is a very good sign!

I habe a strange error. On the bottom of an article I like to add links. I had allready added one link. But the second one can not be added. I mean: if I save the article it deletes text.

I could add a single "<li>" and after that "DRM". But adding "Alternatives Kompensationssystem für Künstler verzweifelt gesucht" was just too much for XOOPS?

This is the part:

(I cannot change </lul> to </ul> any more!) You can see the article here:
http://www.alternativ.net/news/modules/news/article.php?storyid=124

I am using XOOPS 2.0.5.2

tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers

gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--format violated
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous erro

I like road maps

What I like to see is this kind of Wiki feature. Tikiwiki is empressingly large and allows to link into a Wiki from many modules (nonetheless it seems to be easy to crack with SQL injections). As XOOPS is object orientated I would love to see it continue to develop in another direction as just another Nuke clone. So security should be very important nowadays.

To get back to the wikilike features: I would like to be able to link to local ressources from news articles. What I am mssing is also the possibility to load content to XOOPS (like images) instead of uploading and then linking via URL (Banners). Links to ressources should be short. My suggestion would be to be able administer alle images and other stuff (PDF,MP3,OGG,AVI) with an internal file manager that is well integrated.

I personally also like to see a very clean and simple theme that is done without tables in XHTML and CSS. Maybe I can contribute this one day myself (well, to be honest I allready have a very primitive one). With this technique XOOPS could be very flexible. The bad side is, that you loose compatibility with old browsers. But if it is just one theme, people still could choose. What I would love to see than would be the possibilty to set some styles via web interfaces (changing colours, etc). A database driven CMS really should not need to have much configuration via files.

Another feature could be more statistics. I have my web stats, but they do not say much about cryptic URLs. I would like to see which article has what references.

About the core: Many more features should not be programmed into modules but should be classes of the core.

Another point about news module: I would like to be able to say "publish" to articles. Rigth now we have to give a future date to be able to rewrite an article. I'd rather would be able to hold an article until I want to publish it (I might forget the date)

Some features tend to disapear in my XOOP, allthough they are active. I would like the system to be able to check if some of the settings are stille correct. There might be a solution for every disapeared feature, but that usually takes days or weeks. And new errors request new solutions.

thank you

Thilo

I made at least some progress with hacking my theme to display the tiotle of a news article in the <TITLE> tag.

i used: <{$xoops_pagename}> But that displays also

<a>category</a> in the title, which makes it look ugly. Also xoopsConfig['slogan'] seems to be the same (or is this just a cache?)

My goal is to have a good control of what is int the title. This gives pages a higher ranking on search engines.

My site (in german):
http://www.alternativ.net/news

Somebody has a solution? ( Icould filter HTML-Tags iout of hte string, but isnd't there a variable name only with the article title?)

Banner problem

I came into trouble with the banner system. How?

Add a HTML-banner like this:

<a href=http://bla"><img src="bla.gif"></a>

Yes, there is one quote missing. If you add such a banner everything on XOOPS links tohttp://bla (also the button and the text inside the input box (with Mozilla)

solution:

Banner Modules should not accept corrupt HTML-code! This can be dangerous.
