I find the suggestion Richard made actually good and reasonable so we will for sure discuss this option.
(making one subforum for registered users only)

However i´d like to hear more opinions from everyone too first.

About the earlier suggestion of moderators becoming numbers: That will only need to accusations of being hiding behind numbers. I have no reason to hide and will not do that. So far i can still look myself in the face in the mirror without any problems.

I hereby remind everyone to remember the Xoopsiquette.

This has gone too far. We allowed this from long time members as also from new members over the last days.

But thats it now. Any further personal attacks by anyone to anyone will be acted upon again. Don´t missunderstand because i know it will be coming up "but its our freedom of speech".

You are free to argue here but your are not free to go for personal attacks.

I appologize to everyone for this going so far ... but whatever you do: Either you are the censor or dictator or you are the weak that does nothing. Seems one just cannot make it right.

Oh c´mon it might be humans nature ... but hey this is hervés goodbye thread so stop discussing Marks post.

Yes its 100% out of place.

And yes again it is not.

All depends on your point of view about all the things that happened lately ... so just snap out of it.

I could write tons of stuff but i just won´t right now.

One note however: yes i think this is a big loss and hervé does know that allready. (just for those that assume because i did not post here i did not say anything - you know there are other ways of communication these days)
However his posting is just one part of the medal and imho gives an impression that he left mainly because of what happened in the last days.
For those who can only judge on this thread and the latest in the forum: Now that is just not the whole picture about it - but its his thing to talk about it or not.

A list of modules

This is a list of available XOOPS modules. Here you can see for which module we still need good descriptions and also why one or another module might not be added to the new module repository (yet).

This list is far from complete and just the beginning so please post all further modules you know of in this thread (including links).

1. Rejected due to non-final status

Only files in final status will be added to the repository. This means you might find more up-to-date versions listed here but remember they are alpha, beta, rc or in whatever status hence might not be recommend for production systems.
(A lot of us might have worked with betas luckily for years on some modules but basicly an author should release a final once he found it working ... and that should not be 3 years later )

2. Rejected due to files missing

Beginning with the new repository not only the descriptions should be enhanced but the rules for submission will also make some files mandatory for addons to be added to the repository. Those files don´t have to be perfect but a minimum of this information needs to be present:

- readme: basic information about the module
- installation notes: this could of course also be in the readme instead of a seperate file
- license file: as most modules are released under the gnu gpl license this could for example be this one: GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE

Explanation of sidenotes

Also you find some sidenotes here. These will only refer to issues seen along the way and are not mandatory to fix for inclusion. These are basicly just some notes for the author and whether he want to do something about this or not is up to him.

- Eclipse projectfile: found an eclipse development file inside the archive. Does not hurt but does not belong there either since its not part of the module

- thumbs.db: one of Microsoft worst ideas ever. Thumbs.db contain miniature images used when you view a folder in Image view mode. MS is cluttering those files all over your system as hidden files so naturally they often end up in packages too.

- filename xoops2_...: In the past a standard filename for XOOPS files established itself which consisted of XOOPS major revision, filetype, module/themename and version. We are going to use this also for the files we mirror on sourceforge.net. So we would ask authors to use this. Again this is nothing we can nor want to really enforce on people but it makes sense and many already do.
(e.g. <xoops version>_<type>_<name>_<version>_<optional: author>.ext could be for the module memberstats: xoops2_mod_xmmemberstats_2.0c_smd.zip)

Repository: How to ... help with descriptions

Asking for your participation

One of the main critisized points of the old file repository was often the quality of the module descriptions. There might have been many reasons for this like lazy submitter, lazy staff member, english not being the native language of the submitter and many more.

I believe the community should have enough members to let us create quality descriptions for the modules. In some cases these might even prove usefull for module/theme authors.

I ask you to pick one or more modules and create a description to help improve the quality for the new repository. And don´t worry about the version today and the one that might end up in the repository when it opens because usually there will be no drastic changes but in most cases only features are added and the general description should still be valid.

This is how it works:

The most important parts are the short description and main description. If you lack any of the following details it does not matter at all and should not stop you from creating a description. They can still be added and as this is a community effort so is completing and possibly updating the description.

There is a thread called "List of modules" in this forum right here It contains a list of modules to pick from. If you have one in mind thats not listed there just do that one. Post a note into that thread though so it will be added to the list.

To start a new description:

- if you start a description for one of these modules/themes please use the template below and open a new thread labeled "Module: <modulename> description" or accordingly "Theme: <themename> description"
- post a link to your created description thread in the thread List of modules and i will add it into the list and later delete that post to keep the list thread itself short

To make suggestions/corrections for an existing description

- just reply in the existing thread for the module/theme and the threadstarter or a member of the repository team will add/edit it accordingly

------------------------------------------------

Some hints about the description:

Please remember the goal of the description is to inform the user what the module does and which value if offers for him. Its not about gloryfying a module like "This is the worlds best module to do this. If offers an amazing and nearly unbelieveable amount of features which will knock you out of your socks once you installed it"
