I have tried module after module trying to find the right one to meet my needs. I figure maybe asking here might save me a lot more frustration.

I need a news/article/story type module ... with Categories and Sub-category ability. The Categories & Sub-categories would be listed on the Main Menu ... preferably not the module name. "Guest Contributors" of articles would have "write permissions" only to their own Category and/or sub category.

Does anyone know which module specifically can handle this? Or is my need ahead of the development? ;)

Thanks for any assistance & input
Peter

I was experiencing a problem that sounds "similar" to you "might" be having. Spent hours trying to figure it out to no avail.

Finally, I went in and changed the them back to the default. Then ... not wanting to "give in" I changed it back to my preferred theme to tackle the problem again.

Surprise ... the dang thing decided to single space things this time. Themes with attitudes ... dontcha just love 'em.

I actually downloaded TinyD from GIJOE's website ... http://www.peak.ne.jp/xoops/

Although I have been "looking at" XOOPs for a couple years ... this is the first site I am actually using online.

My biggest hurdle was finding a module which would display & list the web pages I had on the old version of the site in XOOPs in a manner my visitors would (hopefully) find convenient & easy.

I tried a number of modules I thought might work. All of them had their pluses & minuses ... but TinyD did it in the way I needed it to do. I have 10 copies (so far) of the module on my site displaying 10 "categories" of web pages and all the pages in those categories listed in the submenu. Plus the visitor can navigate to the Previous Page or the Next Page by links on each displayed page ... and each page can be printed or emailed.

Its GREAT ... and exactly what I needed for my site to fulfill my need.

It has a couple quirky little things that take a bit of getting used to ... but the pluses of the module far outweigh any of the quirky stuff.

Another thing really high up on the pluses ... it handles the html just as it was in my web pages ... no need to alter it. Some other modules, I had to remove all the formatting and save the page ... then open the page in another wysiwyg program and compact the html before cutting & pasting into the textarea box. If I didn't then the spacing was all wrong in the page display. In "TinyD" I can just open the page ... cut & paste into the TinyD's textarea box and it just "handles it". That's a BIG bonus and a big time saver.

Great work GIJOE ... thanks for your efforts

Peter

I ended up removing ShortURLs ... too many problems as I went along ;-(

Then I reinstalled Simplified URLs and ... apparently I had not installed it properly before because this time it worked. Go figure

Like me ... he is disabled ... so him going to another location to try things out is kind of a long shot.

But I agree ... the problem (most likely) is between the chair & the keyboard

I have had 2 more people sign up and no problem modifying their profiles.

Thanks for all your suggestions and input. Will see where they all take me Hopefully he has got the problem resolved today.

Take care
Peter

ahhh ..Haaaa ... anti spyware ... he did mention he had that, a brand name I did not recognize. I told him to shut it down and try modifiying his profile. He said he did that ... and still could not modify the profile.

But then, as I mentioned, I am not 100% sure he is being completely truthful about things at times. ;)

I was having problems with Zone Alarm Pro with my site ... had to shut down the Privacy options in order to login. But I did a security check and it doesn't matter if I have Zone Alarm on or not ... my router makes it so all my ports are in "stealth mode".

He doesn't use a firewall.

As far as settings ... he can log onto the site OK ... just cannot change his Profile info. So ... could the browser still be the issue??

I am just establishing a new incarnation of my site ... this time using XOOPs.

I only have a couple members ... and only 1 who has been trying to modify/add info to his Profile. I have given him detailed instructions on how to make sure his browser is set up properly for the sites cookies ... and he guarantees me its set up OK. But he still cannot modify his Profile.

I set up (via Admin Menu) a Guest account & password ... and I can go in and modify it no problem. I can login using the members name & password and I can modify his Profile again with no problem. But he still can't.

I am stumped as to what might be the problem.

Any ideas?? Personally, I think he isn't being completely honest when he "guarantees" his browser is set up the way I told him ... but before I call him on it, I figured I better check if anyone can think of any other possibilities.

Thanks for the any assistance
Peter

newbb 2.02 with Xoops 2.0.9.2 using Reynaldos ShortURLs - Problem & Solution

Hi ...

I am a newbie to XOOPs & and idiot about PHP ... but just worked with "phppp (D.J.)" on the dev site to fix a problem I was having with the top menu popups being always fully extended on the new newbb 2.02.

It seems Reynaldos ShortURLs is the problem ...

To fix the problem caused in newbb 2.02 ... open the newbb module ... and edit the header.php file

The original looks like this from about line 36 to line 42

if(!empty($xoopsModuleConfig['pngforie_enabled'])){

$newbb_module_header .= '<style type="text/css">img {behavior:url("include/pngbehavior.htc");}</style>';
}
$newbb_module_header .= '
    <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="newbb.css" />
    <script src="include/js/newbb_toggle.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    '
;

Change to
if(!empty($xoopsModuleConfig['pngforie_enabled'])){

$newbb_module_header .= '<style type="text/css">img {behavior:url("'.XOOPS_URL.'/modules/newbb/include/pngbehavior.htc");}</style>';
}

$newbb_module_header .= '
      <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="'
.XOOPS_URL.'/modules/newbb/newbb.css" />
      <script src="'
.XOOPS_URL.'/modules/newbb/include/js/newbb_toggle.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
'
;

Basically the '.XOOPS_URL.'/modules/newbb/ has to be added to the "file calls"

Making those changes fixed my problem with newbb

But now I am wondering how many more modules I am going to have to modify in the same way

Anyway ... hope I explained things good enough.

Take care
Peter

[Edited by Mithrandir : replacing phpbb with newbb to avoid confusion as newbb no longer has any connection with phpbb]
