I've been asked about good software for safe surfing by young kids. There seem to be a lot of options out there for money or free.

I always get good advice here, so who has some to offer?

Thanks in advance.

This is the reply from my host:

Please note that all of the php changes should be done by php.ini file and you can not use .htacess file for changing php parameters.

If I am understanding correctly, I need to copy the php.ini file to every directory that has any .php files.

Are there any areas where I should not place such a file?

Could it matter that I used the Protector prefix manager to change my database prefix? That is also changed in mainfile.php however.

I emptied xoops_data/caches/smarty_cache, smarty_compile, and xoops_cache except for the index.html file.

Public_html/cache also empty.

Did I miss anything?

I just updated the system module again and the files are put into the old xoops_data/caches/smarty_compile folder.

I am confounded. Just for fun I tried changing the paths on another site that is a fresh install of 2.3.2. No problems.

The site upgraded from 2.2.4 is not happy. Something other than mainfile.php wants the old xoops_data folder because mainfile.php does not include the name of the old folder any more.

Any ideas anyone?

So another lesson for the newbie. I went to a different computer that uses Acrobat Reader in stead of the full Acrobat Professional and what do you know, it works just fine.

So it appears that the issue is local to my machine. Sorry for any concern or inconvenience caused.

Thanks JAVesey.

Yes.
Here is what shows when submitting a new post:

Maxium file size: 21000K; Allowed extensions: zip gif jpg doc wpd ppt pdf pps rar mpeg mpg mp3 mp4.

It does indicate that the path for storing the attachment is available. It seems to upload just fine and is visible with the posting as you would expect.

When I download the file, there is a problem and it will not open. Adobe Acrobat indicates that the file is damaged and cannot be repaired.

I have found that CBB 3.08 is not liking .pdf documents. It appears to upload properly but on download there are errors and the file will not open.

The same file uploaded to WFDownloads works just fine going up and down.

I have .pdf listed as an acceptable file type.

I have been unable to remember/locate where the limitation on file size is set but I am under that indicated limit of 2MB anyway.

I tried running the upgrade again and found it indicated that the 2.0.18 to 2.3.0 upgrade was required. I had done this before, I'm certain.

The Upgrade did not recognize the path of xoops_data so I edited that path and continued. Success indicated after upgrade.

Update of system still puts the files into the wrong (old) place.

I removed all files except index from the xoops_data/caches/smarty_cache, smarty_compile and xoops_cache folders.
Same for templates_c.
Double check of mainfile.php to point to the new location.

Update the system module and the condition persists.

Something other than mainfile.php is looking for the old xoops_data folder.
