Just wondering why, as there could be a few solutions.

Something could be achieved by setting a 301 redirect page, I'm led to believe this would be more suitable for search engines.

You could also consider using a .htaccess file to rewrite the url.

You could also use .htaccess and set up some custom XOOPS error pages, where a user could see the search option to then search for what he came looking for.

I think there was an error module available at one point on the dev.xoops site, but that sites still down at the moment.

I'm sure there maybe some other genius ways too, but that's a few that should help.
Kind Regards.

You could use an Iframe.

Hervé from InstantZero has a module to do this I believe:

http://xoops.instant-zero.com/modules/pages/index.php?pagenum=6

This one's FREE too, so you can't say I'm trying to push or advertise a product this time. I actually forgot about this module, but with a simple search I found it for you.

Or you could make your own IFrame, I believe it's basic HTML so shouldn't take you long to learn.

Here's a cool FREE resource I like:http://www.w3schools.com

Again that ones free too.............
Kind Regards.

Have you looked at the Joomla extension to nick some idea's as they have one mean extension called 'Community Builder', it's one reason I'm contemplating future sites being built with Joomla, as this extension is pretty darn cool.

You can check it out @http://www.joomlapolis.com

[EDIT]

The purpose of the post is to point the developer of Yogurt in the direction of a similar system on another CMS to borrow some ideas.
Kind Regards.

As mentioned IceCast can do that and so can ShoutCast.

not sure of the options with Icecast.

http://www.icecast.org/

If you go with a Shoutcast option, you will need to also set up something called SC_Trans this allows you to automate the music process.

All Shoutcast can be found at:

http://shoutcast.com

You will need ssh access and permission on your server/host to run services.

Keep in mind though that what every rate you broadcast at is multiplied by the ammount of listeners for example:

128k x 10 listeners

Could end up costing you some dosh, now if your broadcasting you may also need a music licence, depending on the type of music ie royalties or royalty free.

There are some companies like Live365 that offer shoutcast subscriptions (the music streams via their servers, so you don't need your own) that include a music licence, so you don't need to worry about the legalities.

Such companies may allow upload of your music and play them for you automatically so you don't need to worry about have Ice or SC running anywhere.

You could also consider Flash, something like Tufat flash player, it's pretty cool.

http://tufat.com/s_flash_mp3_player_mp3_component.htm

(Flash could be run in the background via a browser?)

Hope this is of some help.
Kind Regards.

Another option: RMSOFT Shopper (in action here).
More information in
http://www.redmexico.com.mx/

You know I forgot all about that sorry. The last time I tried to evaluate it I don't think there was an English lang pack and I didn't have time to work that out, is there an Eng Lang pack now.

I gotta say from seeing this at tempa themes, it looks very impressive. More could be done with this module to market it to the UK market.

Quote:
Herve's sounds great but I do get the feeling there is some commercial advertising going on here.

Oh I'm sorry I honestly thought you wanted to know your options, hence why I gave them.

Just to note, I'm in no way affiliated with Hervé or his company, I am simply a user of his modules, like the FREE news module for one, because of this I have trust in his abilities and his code.

Quote:
Sorry, its just I need to do this in a strict budget.

Strict budget is cool, however when security comes to mind, using a buggy module which isn't out of beta could mean security risks with users personal information like credit card details, homes address, etc, and a lawsuit could be more costly adding to your strict budget.

This is why I asked if you had money to invest, then added "If not then personally I would stay clear of XOOPS for Commercial purposes".

Meaning use ZenCart or OSC as standalone.

Joomla also have some good options, I believe they also have shopping carts made specifically for their CMS.

Quote:
@ Seth_sd, which one is simple? Which one might struggle with complexity?

If you use either of the standalone versions, they can normally cope with simplicity or complexity.
Kind Regards.

Wordbook hasn't to my knowledge been developed for a while, Lexicon however was originally wordbook and then picked up and developed further by another talented person.

I'm not sure of the latest version as I always followed progress on Dev.XOOPS but that's still down at the moment, not sure what date if any it will be back on-line.

I do however have a copy of the Lexicon module (renamed to encyclopedia), which seems stable enough, I believe it's version 0.6 release on 27-03-2007 - If you want it then please drop me a pm.
Kind Regards.

Hi Hervé

Quote:
What do you mean ?

What I mean is originally it was geared more towards books, however as Smart stated above you've since done more work on the module from the last time I saw it. So I was simply stating if it has in fact become more dynamic as to what products can be sold through it, then it would definitely be the module to test for the users needs.

Do you still have a running demo going?
Kind Regards.

I would advice you to contact instant zero to test their myshop module which is now able to sell everything, not just books.

I've tested it and choosed it for one of my client (will sell wine) because it suits perfectly its needs.

Ohh cool, I must of missed that one, when was it announce?

Quote:
It will sell jewellery.

Is OsCommerce not available on Xoops?https://xoops.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=3933

Is Zen Cart also not available on Xoops?

If Hervé's module does now more dynamic as to what products are sold, then I'd seriously consider that option.

Yes there is or was a ZenCart module for XOOPS, I seem to recall seeing it on the dev.xoops website which is currently down.

I'm not sure of it's current development path or if it is still developed at all.

One thing I found with both ZenCart and OSC modules for XOOPS, is they were very buggy, and could cause more issues than anything else.

If you contact Hervé I'm sure he would be more than happy to demo the shop module to you, it is a cool module.

[EDIT]

Just noticed the news article you point to is for a newer release of XOSC, I've not tested the latest one from Fera Tech, Inc.

The only way for you to know if this module is for you is to test it yourself and see how it functions.
Kind Regards.

XOOPS a fantastic CMS, but a commercial product it sadly falls short off.

If you've got money to invest and are selling books then consider Hervé's, InstantZero's bookshop module.

http://www.instant-zero.com/

If not then personally I would stay clear of XOOPS for Commercial purposes like shopping modules.

Consider something like ZenCart:

http://zencart.com/

There are a fair few commercial open source projects out their, your best bet is to find them, compare them and then decide what's best for you.

A good place to start comparing is:

http://www.opensourcecms.com/

Hope this is of some help.
Kind Regards.
