Re: google adsense

On my site, I use:

1. XOOPS banner module for top banner
2. Custom blocks as suggested above
3. phpAdsNew in full install mode (not the module for xoops) to serve everything.

I would recommend adding phpAdsNew if you have the need for lots of customization and if you sell advertising and need to provide reports to clients. If it's just for google, you don't really need phpAdsNew and can get away with just the XOOPS banner and custom blocks.

Re: Problem with a made theme

I haven't looked at your code yet, but I can see that some sections of your theme expand to the full width of the browser, while other sections of the theme are contrained to 800ish pixes and are centered in the browser. Because you are using images as part of the theme, the sections are pulling apart and showing the background color (white) while the various sections get pulled apart.

You basically need to adjust your tables so that they are confined to whatever width you want and they don't stretch out. It is probably an easy fix, but you should post your theme.html code so that it's easier to tell you the necessary changes.

Shoutbox 3.1 breaks template in IE but not Firefox

In my installation of Shoutbox 3.1 on XOOPS 2.2.3 in theme xmbluext, the shoutbox block breaks the template's right column in Internet Explorer but not Firefox.

I've tried numerous workarounds like wrapping the shoutframe template in another restrcited table but nothing helps. It could be something with the xmbluext theme, I guess, also.

Has anyone experienced this before and can offer a solution?

Thanks.

http://www.hotdogblog.com - you'll see the problem only in Internet Explorer.

Re: Mambo - Joomla! Discussion

i agree with badger. there is nothing wrong with comparing XOOPS to other cms projects. obviously, XOOPS must have some differentiation to warrant existence, but certainly XOOPS can learn from the experiences and mistakes of other popular projects. it's not about being a wannabe CMS, it's about doing things in a professional manner. Joomla/Mambo is key competition for XOOPS from everything from customers to developers. It would be extremely unwise to develop any product without fully investigating, understanding, and outsmarting your competition. it seems like from what folks are saying is that Joomla has a key competitive advantage over XOOPS in its community support, project management, and perhaps other things. To review and assess this, and then adapt XOOPS to outperform in key areas is an obvious thing to do and is most appropriate for conversation here on the boards.

BTW - i love that badger site. I also love Guanajuato!

Re: Webmail Mod

fyi - webmailfx is no longer supported and was buggy. The dev (kaotik) switched to a different platform and has produced Tropical Mail, which is far superior to webmailfx. Not sure what current development status is on tropical mail, though. It works fine on my site.

Re: Tropical Mail

I believe this is correct - no blocks in the current tropical mail.

Re: Surveys and/or polls on XOOPS.org?

I've seen this suggestion before, perhpas by you or others. I always thought it was odd that polls is a system module and yet it is missing on the primary XOOPS site. . even as a demo of the functionality, not to mention the benefits of actually using it.

It is such a no-brainer for a "community" driven project, that one must wonder why this suggestion consistently goes unimplemented. I could see concern for giving an impression of majority rules on certain issues, but as a simple feedback tool, it's pretty obvious.

Re: members getting kicked

you can also try GIJoe's "remember me" hack, this will help keep them logged in, but if the permissions are funky, then it probably won't help with that. Is this a new site with the bug since inception, or is it a new bug, and if so, have you made any changes, XOOPS version upgrades, etc?

Re: "no valid security token found in session" when posting comments.

thanks for your response. Yes, that had always happened periodically when taking too long on a post. I think the custom sessions in the system preferences should take care of that for the most part. This no security token error is persistent and doesn't seem to be influenced by length of time on the post. . .But yes, now I and all my users ctrl a, ctrl c each time we post something significant.

Re: Sending email

Wow. I'm saddened that your post went unanswered for over a month when you have indicated that you are developing a module. Hmmm.

Are you aware of evennews mailer, which is an oldish module that does this function.

https://xoops.org/modules/repository/singlefile.php?lid=1147&com_id=22484&com_rootid=22484&com_mode=thread&#comment22484

You can probably find some ideas there. . but perhaps you can modify this to your wishes, or improve upon it and re-release it, rather than re-creating the wheel.
