Its buggy. When this last "release" came down, Mamba found lots of issues. XOOPS does not support Xortify, it is an independent project of one developer named Wishcraft who posts his projects on the site. It is not surprising you are encountering the issue and I would not waste my time with it.

Did you try using the stop forum spam configuration in Protector module references to automatically blacklist spam users, and other hack prevention measures in protector? That works good.

If he/she used quick format, there would be less data destruction than if a low level format was used.

A forensic technique known as ionic latency detection (used in cold boot attacks against RAM) can recover surprising amounts of even WIPED data. But it would take high level connections for that.

XOOPS beats all of these combined for security and hack resistance, especially Joomla. Most hack attempts are directed at Joomla, VTiger and WordPress sites. The fact that XOOPS is not as popular (yet) decreases probability of widespread generic exploits being developed against it.

Arvixe is a good XOOPS loaded hosting service, and they help sponsor XOOPS.

Go-Daddy will kick sites off their network if you say something politically incorrect on it, and difficult to get your domain back if you want to go somewhere else.

One of the things I forgot to mention is that the xpressme implementations does inherit the users avatar, or allow an avatar to display. I have tried a few plugins and it still don't display.

I'll tickle this thread again when I do figure out how.

When users go to do things on the site (2.5.6) in areas for which they have full permission in groups and module levels, they are reporting that when they go to do things like register, or proceed to the detailed page of register, open a forum, post a message, they get the

"Sorry you do not have permission to access this area status banner"

even though they have all permissions, and the system does give them access the page they are trying to access.

Doesn't make sense. Anyone have any idea why this banner is harassing users?

News is a nice module. WordPress gives you access to using lots themes and thousands of plugins that will work under the XOOPS integration so your blog can look like it is the BBC or the New York Times, advertisements, or even the Dutch Marijuana Cafe Gazette .

Downside: it is more susceptible to WordPress hack exploits.
