I've tried to ban the IPs used by the spam submitters in the XOOPS admin, as follow:

195.169.87.13 | xxxxxx | yyyyyyy

however, seems that they can still post the spams (in the guestbook). have i set it wrongly in the ip ban setting?

a bit off the topic: they also keep changing the ip? how can they do that?

i keep watching this topic since this afternoon (my time). i really don't know what has made phpbb upset (can't really get it from your post, phppp - but i really hope everything can be resolved well). i don't know what has happened too to the newbb team. and really sad to hear if predator is really leaving xoops?

i don't know what i can offer to help on this issue.

since my involvement with XOOPS (been 8 months now), i really learned a lot and feel like it is my home. eventhough never met every of you in person, but feel like all of you are good friends of mine.

different culture and languange among us i think is a challenge for all of us. i do hope every issue can be resolved.

i also hope japanese community can respond to all the points mentioned in this thread, step aside all the differences, and find a way to work together to achieve a better result for all of us (a better xoops: more secure, more flexible, and feature rich) - hi, it can be a suggestion to monty (?) who asked for 3 words which describe XOOPS well: secure, flexible, and rich :)

one type of the the spam i received is also that online poker thing. hmm, seems that there is a 'system'/'script' built to submit this kind of spam to XOOPS guestbook module?

are you experiencing the same issue? my XOOPS xf-guestbook is attacked/filled by spam.

i'm not really sure if the spam is done manually or through system. can we prevent it if it's done automatically through system?

thanks.

i'm thinking of the same thing (cloning a block), but for other reason though.

i want to show a block in two different spots in 2 pages, for example: in the front/main page, i want to show it in the center left block, but want to show it (the same exact block) in the left blocks for example in the module page itself.

is cloning the block is the only way?

i want to follow a field value (why it's returned a wrong value, for example), how do you guys usually do that?

first, i would like to thanks sbruchet for bringing this module to us. i do hope you will continue working and improving this module.

i start to review and implement this module.

i found one issue so far, the submitter can not enter the recipe content in the submit form. i found that it is because in the iclude/storyform.inc.php file, it's been set as follow:
//If admin -> if submit privilege
if ($approveprivilege) {
$sform->addElement(new XoopsFormDhtmlTextArea(_AM_EXTEXT, 'bodytext', $bodytext, 15, 60, 'bodytext_hidden'), false);
}

only the ones that have approval privilege who can enter the recipe content??

i fix it by dropping the: if ($approveprivilege) command.

you might be able to use the news module (latest version 1.3) or wf-section (see www.wf-projects.com) or AMS. all the above have spotlight feature which can be used to spotlight the news/announcement.

i myself using tinyd module from www.peak.ne.jp/xoops for this (as all those above have been used for other purposes in my site ).

hopefully, someone can really develop this mambo to XOOPS conversion script (at least just for the user migration part).

this will be beneficial for XOOPS and mambo too..
