are you experiencing the same issue? my XOOPS xf-guestbook is attacked/filled by spam.

i'm not really sure if the spam is done manually or through system. can we prevent it if it's done automatically through system?

thanks.

I had the same problem with more than one site. Finally decided to remove the guestbook completely, and disabled HTML in forums, comments, etc. We also require email validation before a user can post anything.

The spam posts have practically disappeared now.

one type of the the spam i received is also that online poker thing. hmm, seems that there is a 'system'/'script' built to submit this kind of spam to XOOPS guestbook module?

I've tried to ban the IPs used by the spam submitters in the XOOPS admin, as follow:

195.169.87.13 | xxxxxx | yyyyyyy

however, seems that they can still post the spams (in the guestbook). have i set it wrongly in the ip ban setting?

a bit off the topic: they also keep changing the ip? how can they do that?

I'm working on a new version of Xfguestbook to prevent this problem.
- against spam done manually, I think include a "nofollow" in the url of message, with a warning in the form.
I don't want hack the core, and the solution is perhaps to replace the line 92 in xfguestbook/include/functions.php with
$a_msg['message'] = str_replace('target="_blank"','target="_blank" rel = "nofollow"'$onemsg->getVar('message'));

- against spam done with script, an adaptation of this hack of D.J. (human recognition of a random code)
