Sitemap is an XOOPS module that provides a site structure layout display and generates an XML Sitemap which meets Google's requirements. The original module developer was 'chanoir'. Module development has now been taken over by 'GIJoe'. This package is v1.30b with some hacks by CVD.

The main focus of our hacks is to provide the ability for users to define XML optional tags 'lastmod', 'changefreq' and 'priority' for all URL's.

This package has only been tested on XOOPS 2.3.0

Fantastic article wishcraft.

I have installed sitemap 1.30b on my site and tested it to see where it falls short based on all the points you have made. The XML file it generates seems to work properly but only includes the required tags. Optional tags such as 'lastmod', 'changefreq' and 'priority' are only created for the site's home directory.

The only real shortcoming is the lack of help information provided for users that may not fully understand software design and implementation. For example, there is only a short blurb in the download section about placing the xml_google.php file in your root directory and then register it with google. But I could not find any of this information provided within the software package.

I have been making some of my own hacks to the module mainly in an attempt to make it more user-friendly.

ShoutBox user reported a problem with slashes appearing in their posted messages. The user claims if they change my sanitizing line from $myts->addSlashes($field) to $myts->stripSlashesGPC($field) then everything works as it should.

It appears to me that $myts->displayTarea must not remove slashes that were added by magic_quotes_gpc. Correct me if I'm wrong.

My question is to cover for both states of magic_quotes_gpc would the proper sanitizing line be:
$form_field $myts->addSlashes($myts->stripSlashesGPC($field));

before storing $form_field in the database table?

Thanks in advance.

Well, after lots of trial and error we have finally found a solution for the captcha image not being displayed in XOOPS versions earlier than XOOPS 2.3.0. We installed Frameworks on our 2.0.18.2 test site and the captcha image now appears as it should. For users with XOOPS 2.3.x you will have the option of using the core captcha or the frameworks captcha. In the xoops_version.php file we perform comparisons for whether or not frameworks is installed to decide which captcha enable options to display in module Preferences.

We should be wrapping up the testing and have ShoutBox v4.03 ready for release within the next couple of days. We will be posting in the news here when it is available for download.

I really like the theme you have employed. You will also be glad to know that I will be adding a style sheet to the video tube module when I release v1.81 so you can easily define attributes such as text color so the info displayed under video player is visible.

We have changed direction and are going back to employing the captcha feature by using the core code captcha functionality instead of creating a local copy of the captcha class. The local copy of the class caused too many issues for those who are using XOOPS 2.3.x

The downside to this change is captcha will not be available to those using older versions of XOOPS. However, I believe this change is better for further module development.

Made some more progress today adding wordwrap functionality to the module class so the displayed text line length can be tailored to match the width of the shout frame, thereby eliminating the horizontal scroll. If a word is longer than the width of the shoutframe it will be split between lines so long url's or spammer crap will not change the width of the block.

I also noticed that several people are using the shoutbox in the left or right column which is very narrow so I am going to make the display of avatars in the shout block optional through a preferences parameter.

Well, cleaning up the code took me less time than I anticipated. All the annoying Notices appearing in debug have now been taken care of. I also updated the sanitizing calls to eliminate the 'deprecated' debug messages. I will see what I can add over the next few days in the way of new features and with a little luck I will have the next beta (v1.81) available for download by the weekend.

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the kind words.

As far as new features I am still organizing my thoughts. So many non-english sites are using the module now that I really think I should add full language support and provide an easy method for people to submit their translation (language directory files) to be included. This also means performing some cleanup of the current english language files.

I have been thinking about providing a few more formats for display options and I definitely need to provide a module style sheet and update my template files so users have an easy way of defining element attributes to match their site's theme.

I will probably be moving some of my existing functions into classes for a little cleaner structure. I will also be spending some time reviewing new features available in XOOPS 2.3.x that I may be able to take advantage of.

Rest assured I will still maintain the "keep it simple" look and feel.
