Sorry to see you go James. However, I would like to see the project continue and I would like to volunteer/apply for the position of "Server Administrator". I run a server for my own XOOPS site and have plenty of experience managing Linux based servers.

yeah, you have a few unescaped single quotes

first one being
define('_MI_DIR_ATTACHMENT_DESC','Physical path only needs to be set from your XOOPS root and not before, for example you may have attachments uploaded to www.yoururl.com/uploads/newbb the path entered would then be '/uploads/newbb' never include a trailing slash '/' the thumbnails path becomes '/uploads/newbb/thumbs'');

should be

Can you turn on display php errors and see if there are any?
Its possible that you were running on php4.x and some pages are incompatible with php5.x

Also, when you changed hosts, did you preserve the file/directory permissions. For example, the templates_c folder needs chmod 777.

I agree with Tom (and others) that its GPL and under those licensing terms, its perfectly legal to distribute those modules. IMO, XOOPS as an open source project has an obligation to uphold the notion of open source (GPL) and what it stands for.

@Tom, can you send me those modules? I think that they all XOOPS users should be able to use them to better their XOOPS sites.

You can set your homepage to the news module
In the XOOPS System Prefs, there an option in General Settings called "Module for your start page"
Set that to the news module.
