This is what we use to do in Greece:

Whenever a member translates and offers his work, he posts the Core/Module or single file at xoopsgreece.gr Forums.
Administrators check the files integrity and then FTPs them to the xoopsgreece.gr download section.
At the same time (or most of the times) translations are also uploaded at dev.xoops.org as a backup.

For long time I was thinking of an International/Multilingual XOOPS that can be used as a Demo for the people as well as a test environment for language translations.

Please be kind enough to comment if such a project is feasible! (I am neither tech nor coder).

This is what I have in mind:

Task:
- To work on and test Core, Modules and Themes translations.
- To demonstrate XOOPS Internationality capabilities
- Resource of XOOPS Translations *

URL: Something like “international.xoops.org” or “world.xoops.org”
XOOPS Version: The latest stable
XOOPS Modules **:
- Basic pack: Latest stable, e.g. CBB, News, Downloads, Links, FAQ, Polls etc.
- X-Language
- Lang_Tool
- Any other needed Module
XOOPS Themes: 3 Themes including the used on xoops.org

Administrators (and forum moderators):
Country Local support representatives (1 each)

Members:
Country Local support representatives plus Translators assigned by the Local support representatives (membership by approval)

Groups’ organization:
Each Country/Local support/Language members will belong to a Country/Local support/Language Group. They all should have read/write access to a common Forum. Visitors should have only view access. Visitors/xoops.org members can participate through xoops.org Forums.

Tech support:
From the existing xoops.org community.

* Finalized translations can be stored at the Download section and/or at SF.net
** In case there is a Localization conflict, Module(s) should be cloned.

What do you think?

You are wright! See also this thread.
There were also many translations in dev.xoops which I cannot find right now.

The author of the Lang_Tool is this excellent guy: Finjon Kiang. Everything in his site is Chinese to me!

I would call it "Localization Team". Once we enables l10n/i18n in XOOPS 3.0+, the team will deal not just 'translation'.

Very interesting!

But what is l10n, i18n ?...

It took me some time to understand:
l10n stands for localization, and i18n, for internationalization. Counting the number of letters between the first and the last letters in those words explains the numbers in the names. Laziness is universal!

I don't think so, if you work together with others translators.
Spanish language have a lot of Anglicism, Jargon, etc. so We need to compare with other spanish speakers.
...

I guess that many language have differences from place to place. This could be considered as a "different" Language instead of a Language "Version", example: Portuguese - Portuguese do Brazil.
Also, It would not be easy to follow up translation versions in addition to XOOPS versions. From the other hand, a wiki or WinMerge could be used for comparizons between the same Language files changes.

Myself (and many others I believe) who are doing translations, are not familiar with coder's special tools and we have not the time to learn them.

From the other hand, in case that we are going to use a XOOPS specific Translation tool (like Lang_Tool), how can we use SVN at the same time?

No, is too much work!
Have you got time for it?
...

How much work could be to maintain an empty (from content) site?
I strongly believe that having an International / Multilingual demo/test XOOPS site, would be the best example regarding XOOPS international abilities. I personally have limited time but would be glad to work in such project.

See here.
What do you think about an “International” multilingual site, with the essential modules and Lang_Tool?

It is not necessary to have content and it also could be used as a XOOPS Internationality demonstration.

Do you really think that we need such tool?
We do not create code/versions when we translate; we just translate existing text on existing code/versions

I believe that most important is to upgrade (add permissions and check functionality) and use Lang_Tool module. Joomla has a similar module (component).

Using WinMerge and Lang_Tool is more than enough for translations.

Also, I would like to propose the use of an “International” multilingual site where we could work with Lang_Tool and test the translations.

It's time for some righteous indignation on the part of those of us who humbly TRY to help the program along, and who want to approach the XOOPS CMS in a more professional way. It's time for us to call for an ELECTED group to run the XOOPS program, and for ACCOUNTABILITY to be the word of the day.

I fear we'll never see it. I hope we will, but I'm betting we won't.

I believe that XOOPS is dead unless it can put together a cognizant plan for going forward in the future. We need leadership. We need organization. We need persistence and understanding. We need to renew our sense of community.

So, I'm committed... who else is committed with me?

Dear wingrider101.

This is exactly the way the Proposal Preparation Committee follows (see here and here)

Please be patient as these things are not easy to be done automatically.
