I did another installation manually - no Fantastico - and the problem did not appear. Can't say for sure if the problem was caused by Fantastico, but it may have been.

I installed 2.09.2 via Fantastico and installed several modules. I need to modify the News template and had to clone the template set first. Now, the cloned set shows the following:

* Addresses [List (0)] [Generate]
* Alumni [List (0)] [Generate]
* Articles [List (0)] [Generate]
* Edito [List (0)] [Generate]
* eXtcal [List (0)] [Generate]
* Liaise [List (0)] [Generate]
* Reviews [List (0)] [Generate]
* NewBB 2.0 [List (0)] [Generate]
* News [List (0)] [Generate]
* SmartFAQ [List (0)] [Generate]
* Soapbox [List (0)] [Generate]
* System [List (0)] [Generate]
* Headlines0 [List (0)] [Generate]
* Headlines1 [List (0)] [Generate]
* Polls [List (0)] [Generate]

Clicking on "Generate" yields the following result:

"Installing module template files for template set Template1..."

Does not go back to template page, and browser says "Done." If I click on System/Templates to go back to the templates page, it appears that no change has occurred.

Is this a bug, or might I have done something wrong?

Would it work to change the site address in mainfile.php to the IP address of the site temporarily?

Thanks. Right on the money.

Is there a way to test the XOOPS site on the new server before changing the name servers? You would, I suppose, have to use the IP address, but wouldn't this just redirect to the old host?

I have a cPanel/WHM hosting plan with a domain containing several XOOPS sites. What is the proper way to backup the sites and restore them to the new host so that everything continues to work? Detailed step-by-step please.

Thanks.

There are still many bugs in this fine module and dont really recommend it. Unless you have globals_on, you will encounter repeat instances of some very annoying problems, unfortunately.

What is "globals_on" and where is it set? Is there any reason it shouldn't be set to on so as to help these problems?

Rowdie,

It works! Simple, quick, effective! What else is there to say, but thanks? I would have sworn one would have had to edit the block template, so that shows how much I know. And, just to prove that no good deed goes unpunished, here's another question. Seriously, though, since the question may have to do with the hack which you devised, the best time to ask is probably while it is still fresh:

Now, thanks to you, the topic is showing up in the Recent News block. If I were to later want to bold or change the color of the text for the topic only in this block, where would I do this?

That would work, but adding an extra sql call to every row would also add to the page generation time.

My code works, and it's not as complicated as it looks... try it...

Thanks again! I'll give it a try and post the results.

Thanks so much rowdie and dionesku for the answers. I have been looking for this info for a while.

I am a little confused, though, because these two suggestions seem to be different. Is there more than one way to do this, and, if so, which, if either, is better???

Sorry it took so long to get back. The holidays, you know.

I haven't seen it done anywhere, or I could probably have asked the site owner how he did it. So I can't send a screen shot. Sorry.

If you will picture, however, the below as a representation of the "Recent News" block on the home page, I think you will see what I want to do:

==========================================
Recent News
------------------------------------------
* NATIONAL :: Godzilla Eats Baltimore!
* LOCAL :: Mayor Resigns & Opens Casino
==========================================

In the above example, "NATIONAL" and "LOCAL" are topics.

"Godzilla Eats Baltimore!" and "Mayor Resigns & Opens Casino" are the article titles. Normally, only the titles appear in the block. I want the topics, too.

Surely this can't be very hard to do, or can it?

Thanks.
