Moving Xoops site to a new host

I have a cPanel/WHM hosting plan with a domain containing several XOOPS sites. What is the proper way to backup the sites and restore them to the new host so that everything continues to work? Detailed step-by-step please.

Thanks. Right on the money.

Is there a way to test the XOOPS site on the new server before changing the name servers? You would, I suppose, have to use the IP address, but wouldn't this just redirect to the old host?

Yes all your links on the site will redirect to the old host until the DNS changeover.

Would it work to change the site address in mainfile.php to the IP address of the site temporarily?

All I can say is maybe, I don't know for sure how it will effect the internal links. You may have to update the system module for the changes from mainfile.php to take effect.

I just migrated my site last weekend, it only took about 4 to 6 hours for the DNS to propagate, and the only problem that I had was my bookmark to my site still pointed to my old site even though the URL pointed to my new host.

Updating the bookmark fixed it.

Technically it should.

You probably have access to your site throughhttp://ipaddress/~username/xoops root folder
