Cannot deactivate a module

When I try to deactivate the 'Sections' module, I get to the confirmation screen and click Submit button and then get a screen full of garbage.

Is there some other way (perhaps by hacking the database) that I can deactivate it so I can get rid of it?

Regards
Ashley

Much deprecated!! It's still there and almost certainly the root cause of this little contretemps. In my experience, a deprecated bit of code usually comes with a health warning somewhere in the release or install docs e.g. "It's here but don't use it because etc etc etc"

How about we all refer to it as SonOfSatinSection from now on?

Cum'on boys. stop fighting.

My son has just brought in a whole pile of chocolate finger biscuits which I am willing to share with you in a virtual moment

Actually, having thought about this a little, the main problem is lack of documentation. I'm a newbie to XOOPS OK? I try, because I've been brought up properly, to find answers, before I ask questions, but a paucity of info impedes progress.

I suspect that most of the people working on XOOPS things are shall we say, short in years. Being an old git like me has its advantages (and disadvantages; I can only shag twice a night being one of them.) One of the advantages is seeing the 'bleedin obvious'. There is a distinct lack of documentation.

How about the developer people setting a rule for themselves - Don't deliver software without user docs (by which I mean documentation for the complete idiot - don't assume a background or degree in computing.) Whilst it might be fun (I agree it is) to hack code and climb hills, the real wars are won by doing the difficult things, documentation being one of them! I'm almost getting nostalgic for IBM's system manuals.

Oh, and you can judge me by my own standards when I release my own module (which by the way is to do with recipe management - anyone want to help?)

Kind regards
Ashley

So Catzwolf, as you are 'the man' for WFSections and it's going to be included in the next XOOPS core do you know when this might be? I'm in process of developing a site that needs article management but I also have to develop a special module of my own (oh, I just know that is going to be fun ) which might take a little while given that I haven't seriously hacked code for a few years. So if your release is in the foreseeable, I might just park my articles bit for a while.

Ashley

The Sections thing I have been using is the one that comes with the XOOPS 2 distribution that I downloaded 2 days ago. If WFSections/XFSections is something different I apologise for my ignorance.

Edit.. Downloaded and installed xfsection. At first glance it seems much more the sort of thing I'm after. Thanks all for your help.

Where do you get XFSections? I did a google search and nothing came up. I'm not impressed with the built in (core) sections module as it doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of XOOPS 2 (i.e no ability to manipulate placement and doesn't tie in with themes). I'd like to give some of these others you have mentioned a look.

TIA
Ashley

I'm just setting up a new site on my dev box (Apache 2.0.4(Redhat),PHP 4.2.2,MySQL 3.23.58,Xoops 2). When I access the site from my RH8 Linux Mozilla browser no problems. When I access from a windoze 98 IE6 browser it don't look pretty at all. Missing images, messed up layout (theme), non graphic menu etc. I can access the phpinfo() page from IE6 I have set up on my local server and everything looks OK.

I've accessed your site www.xoops.org and everything seems to be fine so there must be something wrong with my XOOPS setup.

Any pointers?

Regards
Ashley

Yep, I did that to no avail. As I had only just started, I took the cowards way out, deleted the database tables, re-copied the install files in and re-installed.

I've been playing with it again today and notice that when I changed the visible flag in blocks administration it seems to effect all groups. Also I can't quite see whatthe correlation is to setting the block access flags in groups editing and the visible flag in blacks administration. Is there a document that explains this that anyone can point me at? or explain it?

Ta very much
Ashley
