Thank You All for your input.....excitement is growing.....how much longer is their to go until XTF will open....how many days until the contest will be launched.....

WELL, now that we now how a rough average, regarding how the community feels ( ), those interested and willing can get down to work!

5 votes for Option 2
3 votes for Option 4
2 votes for Option 1

This means, get the bloody XTF going, and have a comp with it, but don't worry too much about the first time theme designers.

In the coming days we will launch a pre-sign up period, for those that want to participate. We need this information, so that we can convince sponsors to provide us with a nice price

The more sign up, the better the price will be!

Regards
JasonMR

Sorry rowdy, I believed it to be quite obvious....hmmm, sorry for that...and acutally, I'm not sure what else I could add...

Let me try it this way:

(1) shall we have a contest, to have created and decide on 3 new themes for the next XOOPS release

(2) shall we have a contest, that has high expectations, but will also encourage newbees (regardin theme design), and is to be seen as an event to introduce the XOOPS Theme Forge (XTF), and get people to particpate in the XTF

(3) have a fun contest, in which anyone can participate, no matter what skill level, with reduced expectations

(4) more along (3) than (2), meaning an emphasis on getting as many to participate as possible, no matter what skill level, but with the intent to advertise and kick-start XTF, as monty is clearly in favour

(5) something that inlcudes all of the above

While reading especially the last 2 or 3 pages in the thread linked to, you will notice, that it had been mainly a discourse between me and brash, which led to the crystalisation of the above options.

Judging from the current input, it will be a reversed (4), meaning, less emphasis on getting EVERYONE to participate, and more on achieving quality themes.

Hope this clarifies!

@ limecity: sorry, but I need to push this one ahead! People don't want to wait much longer, and have been disappointed how this has been trodding along.

In the end, we have done this "poll" to get a "rough idea" how the community feels. It's no exercise in democracy!

BTW: 11'th of December was a Saturday

....having written this, if there are more people that feel the pole should be extended, I am willing to add another 48h (no more!!!), but only if there are more people that request this....

Ahhh, another thing, if anyone believes, this is a stupid idea, which shouldn't be persued....let us know

@louisg1

To make the changes to the text specified, just look into the xroster/language/english/main.php and modinfo.php files.

For more help...just post in this thread!

@arowana

I believe public forums are there, to make information available to the public. This should be a reocurring issue, and therefore should this information be available in the public forums, not only in your private email inbox!

I'm convinced, that I'm not alone with this opinion.

Maybe you could direct the person to your open forums instead...

That can be normal...depending on your robot.txt settings. You will find this file in your index folder.

I've copied and pasted the following from Search Engine World (they have more info regarding spiders, bots, etc...):

Quote:

Robots.txt Tutorial
Search engines will look in your root domain for a special file named "robots.txt" (http://www.mydomain.com/robots.txt). The file tells the robot (spider) which files it may spider (download). This system is called, The Robots Exclusion Standard.

The format for the robots.txt file is special. It consists of records. Each record consists of two fields : a User-agent line and one or more Disallow: lines. The format is:

<Field> ":" <value>

The robots.txt file should be created in Unix line ender mode! Most good text editors will have a Unix mode or your FTP client *should* do the conversion for you. Do not attempt to use an HTML editor that does not specifically have a text mode to create a robots.txt file.

User-agent

The User-agent line specifies the robot. For example:

User-agent: googlebot

You may also use the wildcard charcter "*" to specify all robots:

User-agent: *

You can find user agent names in your own logs by checking for requests to robots.txt. Most major search engines have short names for their spiders.

Disallow:

The second part of a record consists of Disallow: directive lines. These lines specify files and/or directories. For example, the following line instructs spiders that it can not download email.htm:

Disallow: email.htm

You may also specify directories:

Disallow: /cgi-bin/

Which would block spiders from your cgi-bin directory.

There is a wildcard nature to the Disallow directive. The standard dictates that /bob would disallow /bob.html and /bob/indes.html (both the file bob and files in the bob directory will not be indexed).

If you leave the Disallow line blank, it indicates that ALL files may be retrieved. At least one disallow line must be present for each User-agent directive to be correct. A completely empty Robots.txt file is the same as if it were not present.

White Space & Comments

Any line in the robots.txt that begins with # is considered to be a comment only. The standard allows for comments at the end of directive lines, but this is really bad style:

Disallow: bob #comment

Some spider will not interpret the above line correctly and instead will attempt to disallow "bob#comment". The moral is to place comments on lines by themselves.

White space at the beginning of a line is allowed, but not recommended.

Disallow: bob #comment

Examples

The following allows all robots to visit all files because the wildcard "*" specifies all robots.

User-agent: *
Disallow:

This one keeps all robots out.

User-agent: *
Disallow: /

The next one bars all robots from the cgi-bin and images directories:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /cgi-bin/
Disallow: /images/

This one bans Roverdog from all files on the server:

User-agent: Roverdog
Disallow: /

This one bans keeps googlebot from getting at the cheese.htm file:

User-agent: googlebot
Disallow: cheese.htm

For more complex examples, try retrieving some of the robots.txt files from the big sites like Cnn, or Looksmart.

Extensions to the Standard
Although there have been proposed standards extetions such as an Allow line or robot version control, there has been no formal endorsement by the Robots exclusion standard working group.

Hope this helps...though follow the above link if you want to learn more about the topic...

As jegelstaff pointed out xcGallery is a coppermine port to XOOPS ::http://dev.xoops.org/modules/xfmod/project/?xcgallery

Maybe predator can assist you with an import script..currently their is no import function, but this could be an interesting feature for the future, you might want to post this as feature request on their project page, over at dev.xoops.org...

I've never used coppermine, so I can't be more specific, hope this helps a little...

If you read the thread mentioned in my post, you will notice that the discussion crystalized different view points in regards to the objective(s) of the contest.

The objectives were indirectly discussed, as it turned out especially during the end of the thread, in the exchange between brash and myself.

To go ahead with further planning, we want/need a decision on this.

The next step will be a pre-sign up phase, to get a rough number on how many participants we have without advertising the event, for an estimate with wich we can approach and try to convince sponsors, as well as recruting jurors, which are not members of the XOOPS Community.

Hope this clarifies tjnemez

I don't know TikiWiki

...same here, though a nother idea:

- create a list with functions of your future extra/intranet
- check which modules of each system are available to fulfill these

...and go from there. As Mithrandir said

features are only useful, if you plan to use them.

What are your objectives? What are you trying to create?

Best arguments are those that are not general, but which directly relate with the project at discussion.

Though, one I can think of from what I now up to now: your co will save on cost, as you, who will be responsible for the system, have already substantial knowledge of the implemented technology, and wont have to learn from scratch
