Hello & thanks for the tips.
All those folders are set the same (backup showed the others didn't) at 774.
Frameworks was already there (in the right place) - I downloaded it again and found some user guide that had "4. configure preferences where applicable" - BUT i Have no clue as to how I get to some interface to set these preferencess...

I added NewBB, which had permissions set at 755 and it loaded and appeared in Module Adin just fine.

Is it always this hard? Or does it get easier once the basics are installed?

Another day passes...

Thanks again
Zaph

Security & Install issue: Protector and Xoopsinfo modules not in Admin

I've been stuck on a module install issue for 2 days and a previous post on this seems not to have got into the system.

This is my first XOOPS install. I carefully added backup, xoopsinfo and protector per instructions. (they are in correct folders on my host site.

First time into Module Administartor 'backup' icon was there (and then activated fine) but the other two cannot be seen. I have tried reloading the images files and the modules themselves and checked they all have the same security setting for permissions.

still no show.

I am worried as I am half way through the Protector install so am leaving a huge security hole - plus I am dying to get past the install to try out Xoops!

Please advise. (PS my Host environment has all the latest levels of Apache etc.)

Thanks
Zaph

Hello Steve

I followed your instructions o the letter and initially didn't get a hit - had to remove Sites from the URL request - but then it came back with the info:

Physical Directory: /Volumes/XRAID01/Users/<mydomainname>/Sites

which (apart from capitalisation was the same as one of the earlier options that had been tried.

/volumes/xraid01/users/<mydomainname>/Sites

Anyhow, I cut and paste the physical directory and entered it into the field and got exactly the same error message.

" Could not detect the physical path to your XOOPS directory."

I am wondering, if I continue anyway, as we know this is the directory, will it be OK?

Thanks for the help
Zaph

Hello Steve

I appreciate that multiple posts don't help - I have made just two, one was on a thread that I couldn't be sure was the same issue, so it might be overlooked. Also the seach mechanism doesn't seem to pick up all relevant threads unless the post title has certain relevant text in it (or so it seems).

Sorry if I have transgressed, hopefully someone can suggest the cause and solution to what would seem to be a fairly basic (and common) issue?

regards
Zaph

Hello. Having worked with Zope, Joomla & WP I am keen to try XOOPS (on recommendation). I am not a techie but can code and have good relationships with my host techies, however we can't get past the install problem:

As far as the environment, all db/apache etc are equal to or above the requirements, I have downloaded the latest Xoops, I have followed the advice and all green lights come up through the install...

Until I hit the screen with XOOPS Physical Path
I first entered Sites (which is at the top level and where ALL the files that were under htdocs now reside).

then I get 2 red alerts:
1. Could not detect the physical path to your XOOPS directory.
2. Physical path must be a directory.

If I try just / (instead of Sites) I get one error
1. Could not detect the physical path to your XOOPS directory.

We even tried /volumes/xraid01/users/<mydomainname>
and ./
and /volumes/xraid01/users/<mydomainname>/Sites

And I went in and added clearstatcache(); in mainfilemanager.php before
$content = fread($file, filesize($this->path) );
fclose($file);

to see if that helped - no luck!

Can't find any reference or help in the forums after 3 hours looking

Please help, to me XOOPS looks like the best bet platform, but I can't prove that yet!

Regards
Zaph

Trying to install my first XOOPS on my host I get
Could not detect the physical path to your XOOPS directory.
error

It seems similar - so I added the php line suggested and tried again and no luck. My host has suggested several combos for the XOOPS Physical Path field in the administrator but we can't figure out what it wants!!

All the files that were under my htdocs locally are now under a directory called Sites which is the top level of my domain.

We tried entering Sites /Sites / /volumes/xraid01/users/<my domain name>
& /volumes/xraid01/users/<my domain name>/Sites

Nothing works! Have searched halp can't finda solution - PLEASE help!
Thanks
Zaph
