shorturl - help with .htaccess

Just downloaded the shorturl module.

Instructions say to modify your .htaccess file, but I don't have one and one didn't come with the download.

What do I put in the .htaccess file to make this module work?

Does anyone have instructions or can point me to how I can create clean urls with xoops?

I'd like all the pages to end with ".html"
